3. I had a friend that voted in a Facebook poll that said Carter was the worst of the living Presidents
I had to inform him that, since I was actually alive (he wasn't), after all of the living Presidents, that Bush was by far the worst.

It pissed me off because he said, 'that's easy' when commenting on the question.

8. Your not the only one. I have a guy on my friends list who I went
to school with. I never see him accept at a class reunion, and I probably wouldn't hang out with him. But he is ok to say Hi to once in awhile on Facebook. Talk about the past and that sort of thing. He is a pleasant enough guy - just a little goofy on some things. Problem - he is always posting comments running down Obama. Today he posted a picture of him and his family attending a tea party. I know I can unfriend him. But I sort of hate to do that, not sure why. I can choose to ignore him too I guess. If it gets too bad I will unfriend him. Meanwhile, I ignore and try to keep politics out of Facebook.

36. I had to do that to a person I met through a different on-line community
Really fun fellow to talk comics with, but he's a republican from a really red state. I didn't know that when we friended each other.

I've since had to hide his updates. I don't think you know when a friend hides your updates, because you're still listed as friends. I believe it just filters their posts from your news feed.

It made my life a lot easier without having to "unfriend" him.

the final straw is when she posted her hero was George Bush and that she was most like Dick Cheney. I just couldn't see any purpose for keeping her as a "facebook friend." Spare yourself the pain of reading downer junk and either hide them or unfriend them.

12. Ironic...
I was involved in a political pissing match just last night. I'm still FB Friends with an ex-boyfriend who is also libral. We have a mutual "acuantaince" who is far far right.. and he basically tries to spin everything, no matter how minor to his wierd right-wing conservative leanings.

Last night, ex-boyfriend posts something to the effect of "Doug Jackson is a total idiot".. because Colbert had done a skit on him - and this state senator wants to allow people with concealed carry permits to bring guns into bars. Um... HELLO? DUMB AS HELL.

So, Republican friend chimes in "Hey, why didn't you point out that this guy is a democrat.. notice you don't mention that".. and there are now 23 posts back and forth about the fact that his party affiliation isn't the point.. the fact that his idea is utterly rediculous IS the point. Nevermind the fact that ex-boyfriend is a Dem, and pointed out that another DEM is being stupid.. that's totally lost on Repub friend, because the senators party affiliation wasn't explicitly pointed out.

So, after 23 back & forths.. ex-boyfriend un-friended Repub guy. Ahh... the drama of politics on facebook.. i love it. ;)

update was the one made by a 19 year old college student on my friends list. it said "OMG I am so SICK of Obama ruining my life!! please just stop! I'm going to sign Grandma up for Glenn Beck's 9/12 project now. (I signed up months ago.)"

el oh fucking el.

when someone asked how exactly Obama was ruining her life, she just said "Too many things I just can't get into right now."

18. Had to 'un-friend' my BiL

He was posting tea-party links, joined the "Impeach Obama" group w/in 2 weeks of the inauguration, etc. I finally saw why my wife can't stand him LOL. He'd always been fairly low-key at family gatherings (no doubt because of his mother's "no politics at family gatherings" rule.

When we got into a 2 day long argument on my wall, I gave him the electronic boot and haven't spoken to him virtually or in RL since. Life is so much better now.

I did that with one person. He's a friend from my hometown and it's not worth getting into. He isn't overly bad, but just sends out some irritating things from time to time. I was unfriended by somebody a month or two ago, lol. Sarah Palin supporter, probably didn't like a few of my posts. Oops. :)

25. I haven't "unfriended" anyone,
but I've successfully ignored a couple of friend requests. When I found the "hide" feature, it really made going to Facebook much more pleasant.

I prefer to use Facebook primarily for family and very close friends. There are parts of other people's lives I really don't want to know about.

29. I'd like to not know
But every damn time I get a new friend I have to look and see what political affiliation they are, lol. I talk about it with some of them etc. I have Republican friends who would like me to run for office when I go back, so most I really don't get into it ideologically with. I have one person who has asked me about politics and we've gotten into some discussions on it, and they are very Republican and considers Obama to be a socialist etc. I mainly just try to explain things to that person and I try to ignore and not even get into the touchy stuff. I'm not going to explain why Obama isn't a socialist to somebody who just believes that, it would be mostly a waste of time anyway. Some people I'll tangle with, I've had a few people get pretty nasty, one of them is one of my best friends. I've argued with him for years about politics. Usually if somebody is nice and they ask something or reply to one of my posts I'll explain the policy or politics of it, but I stay far away from the far right touchy stuff.

30. I remember the days,
many years ago, when I could engage in debate with conservatives and it was intelligent and stimulating. Republicans weren't always like this, but it seems most of the intellectuals and rational ones have gone underground. It has been a long time since I've encountered a conservative that was actually challenging. Now it is all nonsense and crazy talk.

27. I've learned to completely ignore a couple of dudes who always comment on political articles I link.
on facebook.

There's one guy -- a former co-worker, who sometimes posts interesting things (that's the ONLY reason I keep him on my friend list) -- on whom I can always depend to parrot the right-wing talking points. Always defends everything President ChimpyDumbya ever did! Makes me tired. But I've learned to ignore him like a bully in the schoolyard.

33. I'm tired of it too. Facebook is where you go to post pics of your dog and take dumb quizzes.
Seriously - I say that without a trace of sarcasm. Facebook is my fun reprieve from all the stressful political dialog and bickering.

I use the "hide polls" feature, and avoid politicizing my Facebook page, because for me it's an escape from all that stuff. When someone tries to cross that line , I just hide the posts, and I had to delete one friend (both from Facebook and my life) for going way overboard with his right wing drivel, and not respecting my wishes when I told him I didn't want to talk about it.

You may have filter your friend's posts if you don't want to unfriend him.

Also, couldn't help but laugh at the irony of him living in a barn and spewing that nonsense - so typical of Freeper types. Haven't got a pot to piss in, yet keep towing the party line despite their best interests.

Sad.

35. The dumb quizzes are the worst.
Well, most of them. The ones where the people who created them can't even spell or use proper English. Of course, it's probably teens creating them, so what can you expect.

My addictions are Yoville and Farmville.

It really worries me that, with Yoville, I'm trying to plan my day so I can work at the Widget Factory three times a day to earn enough money to keep buying neat stuff for my cartoon apartment.

And Farmville...earlier I harvested some pumpkins and felt like my day was complete.

It's gotta be a sickness...

Awful!

I am just starting to try Yoville and Farmville, but haven't really mastered it yet. I signed up, and haven't done much with it - gotta get on the ball!

I know what you mean though - sometimes you just need a break from all the politically charged bickering, which is why I get annoyed when people get up on their political high horse CONSTANTLY on Facebook. There are POLITICAL forums for that. Every now and again a blurb or a comment is one thing, but when it's just non-stop, it gets old. Why bother with that crap on Facebook?
