Isn't there a difference between speculation of political actions and outright lies in an attempt to defame and injury a person's reputation?

Not that I'm condoning lawsuits...I tend to believe that we have become a far to lawsuit happy society. However, I do think that Palin's threat to sue is a little off the wall while Kerry had a good reason to press a lawsuit.

14. As I understand Palin's issue

she's specifically threatening a particular blogger because the blogger is claiming to have specific information that he can't produce. She's then passing the threat on to any blog that reprints the possible slander. Pretty standard and non-controversial, it seems to me, and pretty much exactly what people wanted Kerry to sue over.

Problem is, it makes her look like a whiner, and that's exactly how Kerry would have looked.

All she said was that there have been rumors ever since last fall about the connection between Sarah's house and the Wasilla Sports Complex. What she said was true. We've ALL heard those rumors. It's conversation at our barbecues, for heaven's sakes. Shannyn was merely stating what is going on "on the ground." She gets around, she hears things, but she never once said it was a fact.
