CA-Gov: Brown Beating Newsom; Foy May Get In
J. Moore Methods (D) (6/20-23, registered voters):

Jerry Brown (D): 46
Gavin Newsom (D): 26
(MoE: ±4.7%)
Here's the first poll of the California governor's primary on the Democratic side since LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa dropped out (although it's a Democratic pollster, it's not an internal). There aren't any trendlines so we can't see if AG Jerry Brown got a bump out of Villaraigosa's disappearing act (Brown, the former governor, is better known in southern California than his rival, SF Mayor Gavin Newsom), but Brown now has a convincing lead. Brown leads even more among voters 60+ (i.e. those old enough to remember Brown's first turn as Governor): 54-20. Newsom leads among the 18-to-39 set, 37-26.

There's one other interesting new tidbit in the Governor's race: Ventura County Supervisor Peter Foy says he's now "strongly" looking into the race and will decide within the next couple months. Your first response is probably: who? Well, Foy is coming from a small regional base (affluent suburbia west of Los Angeles), and is decidely money-impaired compared with mega-self-funders Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner. Here's the rub, though: Foy is a pro-lifer, and a doctrinaire fiscal conservative who helped lead the fight against Proposition 1A. Currently, the conservative movement has absolutely no horse in the race, with the primary field containing three pro-choice business/establishment conservatives (Whitman, Poizner, and ex-Rep. Tom Campbell). If movement conservatives unite behind Foy while the moderate vote gets split three ways, Foy could suddenly be a force to be reckoned with.

1. I love Jerry especially for Governor. He was the best the last time we
had him. If he doesn't make it, I want him to run against Dianne Feinstein for her Senate seat.

4. Yes, I remember stupidity and Republicanism did win out in those days
with the same lying propaganda strategies, however, now that golden muscle boy Ahhnold has really messed the barn, I don't think we will be seeing too many Republicans or DINOS coming out of the State of California in the future.

5. I doubt Feinstein has
any interest in it anymore.

I like Jerry Brown and the Republican field will more than likely be a collection of crackpots since that is about all that's left of the GOP in this state.

So as it stands, I'll be more than happy to support Brown.

9. I wish that were true
The Republicans have some formidable candidates running. Steve Poizner and Meg Whitman both have tons of money and dont' come off as scary wacko Republicans, even if their policies suck.

6. I don't think Feinstein has a chance for Governor or even for her Senate
seat in the future. She has proven herself to be part of the corporate corrupt without a doubt this time around.

8. Feinstein
Polls showed she would take the lead If she got In.Surprislly studys show she Is has been the most popular Dem In california.
Hopefully she retires In 2012.With people like her as Democrats who needs Republicans.

I think Brown Is in good shape for returning to the Governorship.Republicans will likely nominate a right winger. They don't have
some one who can attract some democrats like Arnold.

7. I like Brown, but he won't sign SB 810
I don't know if Newsom can win, but if he comes out for the single payer bill I'd support him.
