I happen to know, before the media does, that the Obamas had
a 'mahvelous' night! They wined, dined, went to a Broadway show, and were seen out and about by the 'riff raff'. And guess what? The 'riff raff' like them. Maybe they even think the Obamas needed a night out and were thrilled they considered NYC for their excursion.

Next week our President hits the Middle East. I'm very glad he's out tonight enjoying himself, and has his best friend at his side.

And goopers/m$m, take a walk. As bad as you want to make it, it isn't.

2. And they called attention to the arts, in the bargain.
"Wow! If cool, smart people like the president and first lady go to a play, maybe I should check it out!" I hope this spreads far and wide (because the arts are HURTING!)

3. We make a mistake ...

... when we begin to believe our own press, meaning the DU Press.

A large number of DUers get their information from the MSM while at the same time decrying it. A large number of average people have not the first clue what the MSM is even saying. They have other things to do, like, oh, working for a living if they have managed to keep a job.

I live in the real world every day. I come to DU and watch the news to see what the other side is saying.

4. They went to a wonderful restaurant called Blue Hill
http://eater.com/archives/2009/05/eaterwire_saturday_special_obamas_dine_at_blue_hill.php

Moments ago, a tipster emailed Eater, "Washington Place blocked off by Secret Service. Obama having dinner? I predict Blue Hill."

Prediction: correct. By way of Eater's Twitter stream, confirmation that Barack and Michelle indeed did (presumably) enjoy a romantic dinner at Dan Barber's West Village temple of locavore excellence. Per @190east: "my neighbors confirm it's Blue Hill. there are secret service on their roof!" Turns out it was a pre-theater dinner. A finer choice, we are inclined to note, our chief executive could not have made. Menu, anecdotes, etc, to follow...
· EaterNY Twitter: Obamas at Blue Hill

UPDATE: More on the First Couple's evening from MSNBC and Politico. Politico color: "His white shirt was unbuttoned at the top, no tie. Mrs. Obama wore a black cocktail dress and black heels. Her hair was up and she held a small blue purse, which I'm informed is called a clutch."

And locavore?

OK, I'm nosy. From dictionary.com...

a person who attempt to eat only foods grown locally

Very fun! "A finer choice, we are inclined to note, our chief executive could not have made."

7. Yes, they only use locally grown food — here's the menu:

(Except maybe for the Maine seafood).

The restaurant has its own farm.

http://www.bluehillfarm.com/food/blue-hill-new-york

The original Blue Hill restaurant, opened in 2000, is located in Greenwich Village, New York City. Hidden three steps below street level, the restaurant occupies a landmark "speakeasy" just off of Washington Square Park.

Blue Hill's menu showcases local food and a wine list with producers who respect artisanal techniques. Ingredients come from nearby farms, including Blue Hill Farm in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, a forty-five minute drive from New York City. Guests can choose from the regular menu or opt for the "Farmer's Feast," a five-course tasting inspired by the week's harvest.

9. Thank you! How terrific is this that the Obamas went there?
This place sounds wonderful, and in the middle of Manhattan. I never heard of it, so thanks.

10. Very moderately priced menu.
Maybe $100 for dinner for two, $150 with a decent wine. For a night on the town, that's very reasonable.

This is great PR for a Play on Broadway and Dinner in NYC when everyone knows they need it. It's a two way street.

8. Looks good!
I'm waiting for them to get home!!!

White House press secretary, Josh Earnest, quickly relayed a message to reporters from Mr. Obama.

“I am taking my wife to New York City,” the president said in the statement, “because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished.”

12. Why do you think he's being attacked for this?
He's popular and these types of things only help to make him more popular.

The last thing the GOP or the MSM want is a democratic President people relate to.
