6. Most of the possible icons I've seen discussed play into right-wing branding of Obama.
Edited on Sat May-30-09 08:32 AM by onehandle
And the icons for other Presidents were not exactly positive ones.

I really have no idea what would have been an appropriate one at this point.

Trudeau can always change his mind. He has 7.5+ years.

Plenty of time for Obama to mess up, I suppose.

2. Obama has described himself as "evolving" when he gave his speech at ASU.
It is difficult to find an icon that represents that.

3. I predicted this last week. It's because Pres. Obama is hard to pigeonhole as a caricature...
... unlike his predecessors, who behaved like walking caricatures more often than not.

9. I think he'll chose a brain.
As in Obama uses his while W pickled his.

Or a basketball, hm, maybe that's too trivial for a presidential icon.

10. We were just discussing this over breakfast-
And I believe my hubby had a great idea.

A Penny.

Why you ask? Well Obama is an agent of *Change* and he has been compared to Lincoln-- Plus, that is about how much money we have these days...

Thought it was kinda smart.

21. I have three pieces in mind.
A Pawn, which would represent how we're being played and how quickly we'll be sacrificed or

A Rook, because we've been rooked (swindled or cheated), or

A King, because it's the only piece on the board that is limited to single small steps, and because it must be protected at all costs, even to the point of sacrificing other important pieces.

14. Funny thing about this is that Obama is the only public person whose Doonesebury charachter
is 'self aware' of his roll in the strip. Kind of like real life!

15. The perfect icon for obama:
Edited on Sat May-30-09 11:30 AM by LWolf

The xtian imagery fits his faith-based political leanings.

It represents different things to different groups:

The right wing fundies can equate him with Satan.

The left wing of his own party, and the nation, can note the contrast between the surface slipperiness: the looking good, the sounding good, the ability to mesmerize, with a whole different agenda underneath that skin, shedding out clearly after the election.

The centrists can note how misunderstood snakes are; their vital place in the ecosphere, their value in controlling rodents...

The corporatists can eagerly lock on to his ability to sell that apple to the masses.

16. No icon yet
Hopefully, next week. While Trudeau may play with the external WH for a while, I'm pretty sure he'll come up with an Obama icon.
