Do you Recall a Media ever this Concerned with the Party out of Power?
I don't recall this back in May of 2001, when it was the Democrats who were on the losing end of things!

I don't remember Newspapers, reporters, talks shows giving advise to the Democrats back in May of 2001 or May of 2003....telling them what they needed to do to come back stronger as a party.

I don't recall seeing Democrat after Democrat being paraded on Talk shows on Sundays like I see GOP members showing up all over the place in prime time!

I do remember the fact that Jeffords left the Republican party and gave the Democrats back the Senate Majority in May of 2001, though. But even that didn't bring coverage of Democrats up to any descent standard of any media appearances for but a couple of days.

I don't ever remember Terry McAuliff being paraded on the television, his speeches being televised live. Nor talking heads on the corporate news network giving advise show after show, week after week! Nor did I hear from Al Gore, or any other Democrat for that matter! I remember it well, cause I was looking for them, and felt very frustrated at the time, cause they just weren't to be found...

So do you remember this same level of "concern" for Democrats as the party out of power, or is it just me?

1. You're right, of course.
The other side owns the media. That's simply a fact of our current political situation. It sucks, and it's not fair, but it's true, and you have pointed at undeniable evidence of this fact.

2. I Just don't want folks to get to relaxed in fighting these Republicans,
Edited on Tue May-19-09 06:51 PM by FrenchieCat
by listening to the CW of the constant Beltway worry wart voices.

The fact that they keep singing this tune, may be a set up for Democrats.

They may want us to laugh at the GOP, until they, the media, orchestrate a total turn around....
something that would make a great newsstory....how the Republican party came back from the ashes.

So, I'm suspicious as to the motive of the Media in this particular case.
I wouldn't be surprised if they have something up their sleeve for 2010.

Just thinking.....

3. How about all those Al Gore apperances too? ha ha. I've been thinking the same thing.
In the bush years it was usually 3 republicans to one democrat on the shows. now it's more like one to one. Thom Hartmann said the other day that it was because they call and say hey I've got something to say and the media flock to them. I don't believe that. I think they still get invited to appear on shows and the so called journalists still seek them out.

You are right.

4. Since 2000, the Democrats only barely lost
Edited on Tue May-19-09 06:53 PM by wyldwolf
We've not been blown out in an election since '94 and haven't had two devestating election cycles in a row since ...well... since I don't know.

But you do remember this?

"As part of a stinging critique of the Democratic Party, Miller outlines key positions on important issues that can again make the party relevant for the entire nation. From tax cuts to welfare, gun control to the environment, the arts to education, immigration to terrorism, Miller identifies values that make sense to a growing majority of Americans.

Miller’s candid analysis of the campaigns of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton further underscores his conclusion that the Democratic Party can no longer field a serious presidential challenge."

5. They still had limited power....and part of the reason why
is because the media was always backing Bush,
and never giving the other side the microphone
in order to be heard.

It is one of the reason that so many Democrats were voting
WITH the Republicans.

Unlike now.....it appears that the push is still to have
Democrats vote WITH Republicans.

7. Ha! Where the hell is Zell Miller now?
I remember that old coot saying he wouldn't back either Obama or Clinton.

Now that he's proven to have no foresight into national politics, I guess no one will care what he says or does.

16. I believe he just challenged Matthew Perry to a duel. The old fart forgot ...
that it was actually CHRIS Matthews who originally pissed him off way back when.

9. That's certainly part of it
for the media this is like seeing a car wreck you just can't look away. The Dems never provided this level of material they never gave media these constant "did he really just say that?" moments

6. I agree
I've noticed this as well. I can't believe how lame the media has become, I actually think that they start trouble, they try to "make" news, to make it more exciting. And the GOP plays them like a Gibson.

8. Do you not suspect that the "concern" might not be just a rhetorical device...
to frame criticism?

Just a thought...

10. Why employ a devise?
Why were the Democrats made to STFU when they were cast out to the desert?
meanwhile, the Republicans are all over town?

11. Believe me, it worse living in this city (D.C.) Everyone is so suddenly concerned that
Edited on Wed May-20-09 07:13 AM by Liberal_Stalwart71
we are moving towards a one-party government. Where was this concern when Republicans controlled all three branches of government, not to mention, most of the governorships, state legislatures and lower appellate courts? There was never this much concern; never the call from the M$M for the Republicans to be more "bipartisan" and accommodating to the Democrats. Never this concern that Bush might appoint an extreme right-winger to the Supreme Court, as there is a great concern that Obama may appoint a left-of-center judge. The Democrats--the party in power--are expected to compromise, to do everything they can to bring Republicans to the table. Where were these calls for bipartisanship when the Republicans were in control? :puke::puke:

14. The Young woman C-SPAN journal is still seemingly "breaking-in" to moderating
was coming UN-GLUED as for a period of time NO REPUBLICANS were calling in. To add insult to injury, the democrats and independents who were calling in were SLAMMING the GOP.

"Uh ... we'd really like to hear from republicans! <pant pant CLICK>"

Oh, the young are sometimes unable to cover their emotions when they know that they are FAILING their Corporate MASTERS.

17. What you're noticing is simply a byproduct
of the set of deregulatory decisions that permitted the poisoning of the public airwaves in America. I say poison because that's what it is in effect; the analogy to things like wells or streams is apt and fitting.

And it goes well beyond any partisan divide.
