4. What do you suggest they do with them?
I'm sick of Democrats whining and complaining but never offering any solutions. About as bad as Obey and crew in the House. Everyone wants to complain about Gitmo, and then they have the nerve to turn down the funding Obama wanted to close it. Everyone wants to close Gitmo, but no one wants them in their state.

7. Maybe he should have thought of that before he campaigned on shutting them down.
Chess, my ass.

5. Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions prohibits...
Edited on Fri May-15-09 05:07 AM by Hippo_Tron
"The passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples."

I'm no lawyer but since we try people all of the time in military courts and as far as I know they afford the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized people I don't see how this is a problem. The article doesn't say that they have to stand trial in a civilian court. If these tribunals are just like any other military trial then they should fulfill our international obligations.

In fact I specifically recall Obama saying during the campaign that he wanted these detainees tried through the military court system. Isn't that what we are doing?

6. The states do not want Gitmo prisoners in their prison;
so what os he suppose to do then. It is better to have military trials than no trials.

8. Did the President ever say that he was opposed to military tribunals? Or just
the way that the Bush Administration was conducting them?
