Well, here is your chance to do something about it:

TELL HIM!:

1. No - I would have been pissed if McCain and Palin were running the country
Edited on Thu May-14-09 08:10 PM by stray cat
I may not agree with everything Obama does - but I probably wouldn't be a very good president nor am I likely to be elected. Short of being president and getting to make decisions myself I really am glad Obama is president and not the other choice we had of McCain and Palin.

28. i love it when people refer to the 'left'...as if they think there is a viable 'truly far left'...
i would submit that most of the 'left' members that post here on DU are merely left-of-center...

yeah, i know the routine...but very little i have ever seen here speaks to true 'left' ideals with associated actions...

maybe some Lenins, but no Trotskys...

the truly active left was effectively stomped into submission ala 1972...and i have not seen any semblance of that level of activism and devotion since...

i am more than happy to entertain any examples that would prove to display ANY mass involvement in truly 'left' endeavors...

'progressive' is the new left...and progressive isn't out on the left end of the spectrum...

Nobody on this thread is an elected representative.

Nobody on this thread can address your concerns.

But, your President, your Senators, and your Congresscritter can.

They are the ones who's ear you should be bending.

They are the ones who care who you are going to vote for in 2010.

They are the ones who can change policy, today....

53. Hell no. Better than could be expected, I'd say.
Screw the McPhailn angle. You could gather the entire field and anoint who I please he's still my pick as the best of the lot for the job. Even if you think someone else would be better on policy, you'd have to accept that they'd have much less room to maneuver and/or to engage the public.

I don't disagree with some of Obama's harshest critics on our side of the spectrum as far as goals but I also think that some of you guys have more chance of taking us in the wrong direction than towards the goal. I find it hard to buy people tactically that are under the impression that moving this country into a sane direction would be like flipping a switch. This shit is not days, months, or even likely years. I'm talking decades, one and a half or two of them.

I also think people "misunderestimate" the dysfunctional general state of the entire political system. At this point Democrats actual have to embody nearly the entire legitimate political spectrum in anything resembling a liberal democracy. We have a wholly cancerous growth of a party that represents a half of one percent of people and another 20-25% of people that buy their bullshit (granting another 20% or so that is somewhere between susceptible and sympathetic), with the standing and stake of an actual partner in governing.

Until the Republican party is drastically different, minimized to the point that have 3rd party status, or got the way of the Whigs there are sever upper limits on what can possibly be accomplished. The debates must happen between those that are actually participating to really make deep changes. Obama to a eye measurable level has been transformational already in waking some people up and encouraging them to step up in their own way.

We are beyond need of many systemic and structural revamps but as far as I can tell we are still quite early in the game of Hearts and Minds. Beyond that, Obama will do well to stabilize the patient. I was pleased we had a deep group that all could at least stop the bleeding and brains oozing out of our heads to varying degrees. I was and continue to be excited by a guy with some potential to get this country to at least get the country facing the right direction.

I'm shocked that people would just generally expect to do much more than back up some. Shit folks, in this country a little backing up earns and earns honestly, a borderline top 10 all time ranking for Clinton. That's just on competence. In our times a person isn't settling with their vote when they get sane and intelligent...you hit the lottery. Somebody actually accomplishing anything of note for the people is a gold mine on your rich virgin oil lease PLUS Bill Gates has to give you all his money too.

Actual steps, no matter how small towards being the country we brag we are is priceless. Few have even tried and less have succeeded.

Some folks are grading with a set of metrics that would allow them to both declare Obama a top 5 President (maybe even the #1) and grades an D-----/F+.
