Bachmann Uses Fake George Washington Prayer To Bash Obama

By Chris Rodda

Just a week before her now infamous inaccurate dating of the last swine flu outbreak, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann spit out a few more bits of historical hogwash, including a fake George Washington prayer, to bash the president.

On April 21, the very same day that she enlightened us all with her scientific analysis of CO2, Bachmann also took to the House floor to rant about Obama's statement in Turkey that the United States is not a Christian nation, and the covering up of the gold "IHS" inscription, a monogram that symbolizes Jesus' name, behind where he was standing for his speech at Georgetown University.

Before getting to the fake Washington prayer, Bachmann, referring to Obama's statement in Turkey, shared her thoughts about Abraham Lincoln:

"I wonder, Mr. Speaker, if President Abraham Lincoln, one of President Obama's heroes, would have said overseas that he believed America was a nation of secularists..."

Well, Obama, of course, didn't say America is a nation of secularists either, so I don't know what the hell Bachmann was talking about there.

Bachmann then proceeded to spew out a fake Washington prayer found on numerous Christian nationalist websites, compounding the lie by attributing this prayer to Washington's inaugural address, something that even the Christian nationalist history revisionists aren't stupid enough to try to get away with.

8. Look, the woman has all the symptoms of delusional disorder
So nothing that she says should surprise anyone.

Regarding the folks in her district- well, let's just say I hope they stay there.

2. Relatives and friends of GW stated he never prayed. One historian said a minster rebuked GW for not
taking communion and GW never attended services again when communion was offered.

That's from a book on presidents and religion in my library and I'm traveling at the moment.

3. Look up the treaty of Tripoli.
During John Adams' tenure in the presidency. Stated that the U.S. was in no way based on the Christian religion. Passed overwhelmingly (unanimously?) through the Congress, signed by Adams with no comment about that clause, text published in the newspapers with no contemporary negative comment recorded.

11. Your post cracked me up for some odd reason...
Just the idea of someone hearing Michelle screech about Obama being a socialist liberal pinko Kenyan commie who wants to force kids to have abortions or whatever then patting her on the head and saying, "Bless your heart!" makes me laugh like an idiot.

A lie is when you know the truth but speak the opposite.

This woman is ignorant and crazy. She probably got her information from one of these Christian Nationalist sites or a bad email forward.

Michelle Bachman is your crazy fundamentalist aunt or other relative who believes the email forwards and no matter how much information you show her that it isn't true she believes it.

Glad to see they have representation in our House of Representatives.

lens of the Age of Enlightenment.

In case you don't know what a Deist is, Ms. Bachmann, I will "enlighten" you...

They believe in a god based on reason. They also believed that this "being" has a hands off management style. So basically, this being has no care whatsoever in how many things we sacrifice, how many prayers are offered or any other mumbo gumbo offered to this entity.

That is what more of the founding fathers believed.

She would certainly be better off, and so would her constituents.

9. Okay when is she going to appear on Colbert and let us all in on the joke?
It has been brilliant satire, but enough's enough.
