GOPer Tedisco Concedes NY-20 Special Election
The NY-20 special election is now officially over, with Democrat Scott Murphy the winner.

GOP candidate Jim Tedisco, who trailed by 401 votes as of yesterday's vote count, has called Murphy to concede, according to Murphy spokesman Ryan Rudominer.

Murphy takes over in the seat from its previous Democratic occupant, Kirsten Gillibrand, whose appointment to the United States Senate set up the special election for this marginal district.

The election was on March 31, three and a half weeks ago, but it took this long to get a winner because it was so close and involved a lengthy process of counting and litigation of absentee ballots. Still not all of the ballots have been reported in, but it became very clear over the last few days that there was really no way Tedisco could have pulled it off.

5. HA!! Wasn't that the seaat the Pubs were confident on winning?
All the talking TV heads were saying this was going to be a big indicator of how 2010 was going to go gor the Pubs! Supposed to have been a Pub district.

6. the media wanted to make this all about the stimulus
But now since Murphy won (even though he was virtually unknown, started 12 points behind, had all these ads run against him trying to draw on anger at AIG, and in a conservative district), I'm sure the media will just say "Ah, it was close, can't really tell anything from it."

Nice way to close out the week.

17. That's right
Tedisco was so confident that he quit his NY State assembly seat so he could focus on getting ready for congress ... now he's got nothing.

11. OK, Norm C. Now it is your turn to do the right thing and concede
He needs to stop this BS. Also, this note to Michael Steel: Could you please, please stay on as Republic chair for a long time?

13. As a resident of NY 20
and someone who spent election day badgering dems with phone calls to make sure they voted, this is terrific news!

Yes, the GOP wanted to make this election a referendum on Obama.

Yes, the district was gerrymandered years ago by the GOP to make it a safe GOP district: the GOP has more than a 2 to 1 voter advantage

Yes, the GOP ran a well known party hack who has high name recognition, while the dems ran an unknown newcomer who has family ties to the district but otherwise has pretty tenuous connections

Yes, the GOP inundated the district with attack ads

Yes, the GOP expected to win this race and started with a big margin in the polls

On election night it was dismaying to learn that it was too close to call - less than 300 votes out of 140,000.

After that, the GOP said they'd win in the absentee ballots because they are mostly snow-birds and older folks who are far more likely to vote GOP

When it was still too close to call the GOP said they'd win with the absentee military ballots (that have a later deadline) because they said serving soldiers would be likely to vote GOP.

After all that we still won, not by a big margin but our guy is in and theirs isn't!

I will give Tedisco a nod for having the decency to concede, unlike douchebag Coleman.

14. A lot more transparemt and quicker with levers than paper ballots, absentee plus regular.
And that is with MN having good procedure and our ability to recount. Coleman took avantage, nd we don't want to discourage counting. Just saying mechanical levers are more accurate and 100% observant on election night.
