My letter to the President re prosecution of the previous administration.
I demand that you prosecute those members of the previous administration that tortured,
wiretapped, used our intelligence agencies to lie us into an illegal war that resulted
in the murder hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens and the maiming of tens of thousands of our own.
This is personal and I have never been more serious about anything in my life.
My decision whether to remain in the country of my birth and raise my 3 children there,
or whether to leave and abandon it as a hopelessly ruined and lawless country, rides on
what you do. I have never been more hopeful and supportive of a Presidential candidate
as I was during your run for the Presidency. But if you fail in your duty to bring these
criminals to justice, you will have done what Bush failed to do: to finally break the back
of my hope and faith in the United States of America. If you fail to bring these criminals
to justice, you will have assured me that what I have felt, in the deepest moments of
depression over the state of our country, namely that we are a failed country bereft of any true moral center, is in fact true.
And so, I say to you again, as a citizen of these United States of America where our "sacred"
Constitution is held up to the rest of the world as a beacon of light and truth and justice,
I say to you that it is your duty and sworn responsibility to uphold that same Constitution
and carry out the oath that you gave when you were sworn in; to bring to justice those that
have trodden over our rights, traitorously and greedily pursued policies designed to enrich
themselves and their cronies, and taken away, inch by inch, the guarantees that our forefathers
fought to hand down to us. This, I demand.

Dear Mr. President(or lowly staffer as the case may be)

I am writing to you to voice my strong disagreement with your statement and that of your chief of staffs that we should move on when it comes to prosecuting people who condoned or excused torture.

I feel as though we can not look ourselves in the mirror until we stand up and address what was done in our name. What does it mean to be an American if we don't stand for justice. If we are willing to look away when it is embarrassing to us how can we call ourselves Americans?

There is no question that the previous administration is guilty of a myriad of crimes. If you are not willing to stand up to them then My last hope for this country is going to fade.

You inspired millions to get involved in their government again I beg of you not to discourage this by allowing the stains of the last administration to remain unpunished.

It is not justice if only the little guy gets to feel it.

Our country has been awash in greed and if not criminal behavior then what should be criminal behavior for years now .

At the stadium in front of thousands you said "Enough!". You were right !

I met your wife on the campaign trail . I have a wonderful picture of your wife and mine together that we will treasure forever. We heard her speak and spoke with her. I don't for a second believe that that wonderful woman we met , so bright and full of compassion, believes for a second these actions surrounding torture should be excused.

Now when you made your statement the other day you were very specific in your language. This gives me hope that there was a reason for the specificity.

I understand the problems with prosecuting the people "acting in good faith" on the advice of the DOJ. I understand the concept of entrapment.

Having said that there are a whole list of others that are responsible for allowing, worse condoning that these behaviors be carried out. THESE PEOPLE MUST BE PROSECUTED!

There must be no doubt going forward that we do not allow our elected leaders to manipulate the law to avoid the constitution.

Enough!

We have just allowed some of the nations largest looters to walk away with billions of dollars of tax payers money to shore up the mess they created. This was not justice. I understand the necessity to do it but following that with a refusal to go after the people who have put such a stain on our nations names with their aggressive attempts to evade any restrictions put on them will be beyond the pale.

As I sit here writing to you I think back to abu gahrib and the torture that was carried out there,. I think of the tragedy of convicting the woman in the photo while the man that used to occupy your seat looked for ways to continue the very same practices she was convicted for. It sickens me, and it is not America.

There were times during the last administration many times when I thought our democracy was dead. You restored my hope that it lives on in this election. I am begging you not to crush that hope.

You have done so much in such a short time that is just beyond my wildest expectations. This one for me though is a show stopper. It is time to restore the rule of law to this country for everyone and laws mean nothing if they are not enforced!

I truly believe that you used that specific language in your statement when releasing the memos on purpose. I still have hope that you are getting the ducks in a row before jumping into the frey. It seems to be your M.O. but one can never be sure.

I still have Hope.
