His name is Raymond Seick and he is an icon and a treasure to our community of disc golfers. He can be found on pretty much any summer day selling discs, pop, granola bars or (and most importantly) teaching novices how to throw discs out on the nearby baseball field. He is one of my personal heroes because of all he has donated to our much loved Ft. Steilacoom Disc Golf course.

That said, he is also a die-hard republican kool-aid drinker and local precinct comander. He can easily point out the merits of trickle down economics-merits I have yet to fathom! His van still proudly sports a BUSH sticker even though that van has been seriously vandalised because of that sticker. Him and I have had many a fine debate, politically we never agree but we enjoy those debates even more than disc golf I suspect.

So knock me over with a feather when Ray comes up to me and informs me that; "Although I disagree with most of Obama's policies and can almost tolerate a few of them, his decision to talk with that Chavez fellow is the one thing I fully support!" He went on to point out that Venezuela does not have an army to harm us with so in this case discussions are a good thing indeed. He also liked that things appear to be thawing between Cuba and America but he felt we need to be wary of Cuba because they have an ability to harm us-(although he didn't explain how that was).

Although Ray is one of my heroes, I am not about to give up on him when it comes to much of the nonsense he believes in. For example, his support of our invasion and occupation of Iraq. When I pointed out to him that by even the most conservative estimates almost 100,000 Iraqi civilians have been slaughtered his response is, "Well war is hell now isn't it!" Yeah, I'm still working on him.
