Rasmussen Reports: 18% of Texans are bat-shit crazy
Though Gov. Rick Perry (R) insists Texans are talking about secession in response to federal tax policy, a new Rasmussen Reports poll finds that 75% of Lone Star State voters would opt to remain in the United States. Only 18% would vote to secede, and 7% are not sure what they'd choose. (Political Wire)

2. Give that 18% Galveston Island
Isn't it prone to devastating hurricanes and floods? Let them see how they handle such storms without federal help.

4. Only 18% how could that be???
According to many many DUers it's the whole state that's crazy. I can't imagine that it's only 18% that actually approved of the rantings of the stupid governor.

7. Calm down
Not all Texans are crazy. But I will admit we have our fair share of idiots - who doesn't.

9. Go -
Would help with a lot of our Mexican border problems if Texas was on its own to deal with them. Still have other Mexican borders, but leaves the U.S. with much less border to control.

Those 18-25% that are or might be for secession haven't thought this through very well...or are incapable or unwilling to think about the consequences.

12. Anyone think there's a Bradley Effect?
I'm a Texan and I currently live in the most conservative part of the state, so maybe my perception is biased. From my perspective, a lot more than 18% of the state support secession. But like I said, when you live in an area where 90% of them support it, it tends to distort your own reality of the state as a whole.

At any rate, I wonder if there's a Bradley Effect where a lot of Texans won't admit that they support this but they really do. I wouldn't be surprised if the real number of pro-secession Texans is in the 40-50% range. A lot of them are too embarrassed to admit it since it's considered a nutjob political position.

In particular I live in a red city as well, but I don't know of anyone that supports this nonsense.

15. No offense to the many good people of Texas, but I'm surprised it's
not significantly higher than that! I would have guessed about 40 percent of them were bat shit crazy. About the same as my state of nutjobs.

16. See my post above regarding a possible Bradley Effect...
This is like admitting you're a racist. People are too ashamed to admit that they're secessionists even if they are.

19. yeah, interesting theory...
If they'd asked the question differently, like:

"As a Texan, do you feel that our state would be stronger and more prosperous without supporting the frivolous waste of the Federal Government?"

It's all in how they ask the question... I mean honestly I bet that 20% of Texans don't even understand what secession means!

They'd see a 90% response...
