8. This is an example of preemptive sarcasm....

...against the poster's anticipation that Obama lovers will attack Keith for criticizing Obama.

I know, because I am one (Obama lover). I don't have a beef with Keith saying what he said. In fact I agree with him . I hope Obama will do what is right concerning the crimes of BushCo. If he doesn't, I hope he does a lot of other things right.

13. but I am thinking the President may not be the person to do it. It may be an awful
precedent to set. A republican president could use this as a way to eliminate enemies and potential successors in the other party. perhaps it is something an independent prosecutor, the people, the legal profession, or even another country should do instead of our GOVERNMENT.

10. Keith Olbermann was 100% correct.
Barack Obama is WRONG. Obama will lose support, respect, and will be complicit in the crimes of Bushco if he continues down this path.

If the unquestioning blind faith of the Republicans during the Bush years didn't make an impression on you, you weren't paying attention. As much as we may like Obama, we must not look the other way when he missteps.

Obama is wrong. We must prosecute.

14. I don't see how we can honestly prosecute these people
Today Obama released the memos that show the Justice Department advising the CIA that what they were doing was within the law. Now we want to prosecute them for it? It seems like we'd be making new retroactive laws.

22. Where did I say I wanted to prosecute people in the CIA who were following orders?
They may have been wrong to do it, but I can understand the pressure and fear they were under to do it.

I want Bush, Cheney, and the higher ups to be prosecuted.

18. Here's an angle you might not have thought about...
The CIA is more powerful than the President. They killed Kennedy and they could easily do the same to Obama if he fucks with them. Don't ever forget that when it comes to the President trying to penalize the CIA.

12. Nah, see Keith is doing it the right way.
There has to be public pressure from the left, to give Obama the room to do what he is going to do. The prosecutions that we all want is a extremely delicate matter that must be approached carefully with the right steps and the right timing. In the meantime, those on DU who trust Obama enough to be patient will see it one way, and those who don't trust enough and want things done now will see it another way. At any rate, everytime Obama takes a step, everybody starts reading the tea leaves about what it means.

I disagree with him however as Obama was basically threatened with his life over the release of these documents. Also, the lower level CIA agents mean nothing. Its like Abu Ghraib. The top level is the problem and where all the power was. Rumsfeld. Bush. Cheney. Rove.

40. Keith didn't seem to be digging what John Dean was telling him
Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 08:58 PM by Phx_Dem
with regard to the following:

1. Courts dismissed Watergate prosecution cases against some of the lower-level guys because they were assured by their higher-ups that what they were doing legal because it was a matter of national security. IOW, they were following the orders of their superiors who lied to them and told them what they were doing was legal so they could not be prosecuted.

2. Dean stated that Obama has not ruled out prosecuting those who crafted the memos outlining what could be done and those who ordered the torture. The only prosecutions that have been ruled out is the prosection of the CIA agents to carried out the administrations orders, presumably because the DOJ assured them it was legal. People have the right to not be happy about this, but they do not have the right to change the facts and claim Obama has ruled out prosecuting anyone.

You could hear Keith harumphing in his mic while Dean was explaining the above points.
