Why when liberals are mad do they say they're moving to Canada?

But when conservatives are mad they say the government is illegitimate and they are going to grab their guns and fight fascism? I just think it is very odd dichotomy.

I'm not saying that it is 100% the case in both sides, but I am bothered about what kind of minds gravitate en masse toward violence as the answer to a political struggle they lost.

Ranting about moving to Canada seems to be more one of disappointment in your fellow Americans that they would choose such a radical direction to take the country (such as 2004 with full knowledge of what Bush was) or a fear that the country is sliding downward beyond hope and you cannot do anything to save it so time to jump ship.

Ranting about wanting to take back our country by force? THat's like a guy who doesn't want to come to grips with the fact that his woman got tired of his bad personality and left him. He wants to stalk her and ensure she pays for rejecting him.

I am seeing a huge amount of psychotic language and behavior coming from these people, and I think it is heightened by the snotty position they held under Bush when they felt it was just fine to extinguish 2 party system and be a part of a 1 party dictatorship in which the president is essentially emperor. Now that the "4th Reich" didn't come to pass, their rage boils over as they seek answers as to why a signifigant majority of Americans said "NO" to their worldview and they must now stand powerless as President Obama and the Democratic congress enact a more liberal agenda on all fronts.

So.....what to do? I think it is too embedded in the minds of many who are easily swayed by demagogues. But at what point does free speech cross the line to inciting riots or assassinations? When do the messengers have to pay a price for precipitating disaster?

1. What other country could they move to?
There aren't any Westernized countries that are more RW than the US.

3. Exactly
Their ideology has been pretty much rejected by the rest of the Western World.

There's nowhere for them to go.

2. Conservatives are, in my experience, often also xenophobic.
I'm guessing that is why the idea of going somewhere else (Saudi Arabia? Bolivia? What country is repressive enough to suit a non-xenophobe Bush devotee?) doesn't cross their minds, but rather they think they're in a corner and need to fight.

And, of course, as so many of the nuts you're really referring to have day dreams of being action heroes, and conspiracy plots... so they seem to project them onto the "other side", the "left"... so they assume that we'll do unto them as they'd've liked to do unto us... and it scares the piss out of them- so they think they're in a corner and need to fight.

Just a couple of theories to start us off with.

5. Very few liberals actually moved to Canada
Most of it was just the fear talking. As for the ones that actually did, I have a hunch that a lot of it was probably more due to the fact that they thought life would be more pleasant there without the batshit crazy right fucking things up all the time. But I could be wrong.

I have all kinds of theories as to why the right is as insane as they are, but in a nutshell they're simply very fearful, very ignorant people. A liberal, realizing that America has been taken over by fascists, is actually calm enough and rational enough in their thought processes to realize that there still may be other alternatives than resorting to violence. Moving to Canada, for example. Waging opposition through protest and civil disobedience as opposed to armed rebellion for another example.

A conservative, well, to be blunt about it, operates more like an animal functioning on instinct. It feels attacked, so it lashes out. If the conservatives were dogs, (I mean real canines) then right now they're in that growling phase, They see the enemy (the fact that it's more imagined than real is a whole different discussion), and they're baring their teeth. Liberals, more capable of complex and analytical thought, would take a look at the perceived threat, and quite possibly come up with another way of dealing with it than resorting to basic primal instinct.

As scary as all this lunatic talk is from the right is, never forget one very positive thing about it though. They wouldn't be acting this way if they didn't really feel threatened. They know that they are in danger of becoming extinct as a movement. Or to be more accurate, they know that they are in danger of losing any chance they might ever have of having real political power again. They'll be doomed to walk the Earth like the Neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan, organizations that are today shadows of what they once were. All this crazy talk you're hearing from them are their death screams.

I once heard someone say that people have a tendency to die the way they've lived. The right wing has lived violently, arrogantly, selfishly, and obnoxiously. As a movement, they will likely die the same way.

6. Well put.........
only time will tell if they die out the way you describe but then again history has shown what happens to hate filled, violent, arrogant, selfish and obnoxious people like them.
