Poll question: How do you think W is feeling right now?

Now that President Obama is in thick of things .. and that Bush is getting a crash course on how 'it is to be done' ... Which of the following might best describe the mood of ex-president?

17. Hello My Friend, we must be from different generations
Alice is featured in Jefferson Airplanes classic drug song White Rabbit. Lyrics attached:

But shame on you thinking this Gen. Xer didn't know who Jefferson Airplane was!

constitution. bush is a psychopath, he is essentially soulless. He justifies his terrible presidency in his own mind, and will surround hinself with people who will agree with him. He is doomed to go down in history as the worst president this country has known, and he just does not care.

39. Contented at having completed a job well done.
Edited on Mon Apr-13-09 05:13 PM by Uncle Joe
His oligarch/corporate masters are most proud of him having transferred such a huge amount of the people's resources and nation's treasure toward the very wealthiest, and to think he got away with it by acting more ignorant than he is.

"The Mentalist" had an episode where the murderer; an avid Moby Dick reader pretended to be mentally challenged as a means of camouflage, I believe to a large degree this is true of Bush.

Bush and the corporate media used his "stupidity" as a shield, first during the 2000 debates, when his errors, mistakes and lies where overlooked or forgiven, after all he wasn't supposed to be a good debater capable of expressing an intelligent thought in a coherent manner, therefore he didn't have to. The corporate media set expectations so low for him, all he had to do was step over the bar lying on the ground without tripping. I believe this same pattern occurred throughout his administration, by playing stupid, he wasn't held to account for his corrupt and nefarious policies.

I do believe Bush was an incompetent pRresident, but that's taking the definition of President as a leader looking out for the welfare of the nation as a whole. Bush was clearly competent in screwing the vast majority of the American People over for a few mega-wealthy co-horts and contributors.

Even if he never becomes popular, I believe he will always be well treated by them, after all they're his base and that's all he ever cared about.

41. His opponents lowered the bar for him
All the stories of him being stupid, a drunk, a wife beater, a coke addict and a cowardly deserter did not come from his supporters. They came from the opposition which lowered most everyone's expectations of him to such a point he could get away with almost anything. In the debates against Gore, all he had to do was not wet his pants and stare at the bright lights in order to surpass expectations.

67. I don't recall
Al Gore ever lowering the bar against Bush, I do recall continuous corporate media punditry propaganda either lowering the bar for Bush or lowering the bar as to what was important in considering the candidates for the job of the Presidency.

This is where that "Who would you rather have a beer with?" frame came from.

There are many people, I would enjoy having a beer with, that by the same token would horrify me, should they come to the most powerful job in the land.

Of all those things you mentioned, I don't recall the corporate media covering any of those allegations in depth except for a DUI charge against Bush just a few days prior to the 2000 election date. I also believe the "Who would you rather have a beer with?" frame to some degree neutralized the impact of that last minute disclosure.

All the trivial B.S. leveled against Gore by the corporate media whether it was "earth tones", or a debate hinged on someone having heard a sigh, the ludicrous corporate media promoted slander/libel that he actually claimed to have invented the Internet, etc. etc. while they simultaneously ignored Gore's extremely substantive arguments, qualifications and legislative leadership in opening up the Internet were used as a means to lower the bar of the Presidency's import to the nation.

The same corporate media which lowered the Bush and Presidency bar would go on to lower the bar for waging war against Iraq by covering the run up with the jaundiced, critical eye of a Will Ferrell/Cheri Oteri cheerleader tandem skit.

73. But prior to 2000,
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 11:50 AM by Uncle Joe
the corporate media was the predominant form of information for the American People, and in that role, they lowered the bar as to what was expected from Bush and what the office of the Presidency required. The corporate media had a higher obligation to informing the American People as to the state of reality with at least some level of integrity.

Although I've been a news hound since the late 70s, being in the military, I felt an acute need to know the truth as my life depended on it. My method was reading up to three newspapers a day, catching every network prime time news program and some cable news for a time, plus PBS, to a large extent I lived for the news but I'm relatively new to the Internet. I also knew different outlets would have different takes on reality and believed I needed to catch it from a variety of angles to filter out a greater understanding of the truth.

Even just living on corporate media information scraps, I noticed too many contradictions in their traditional hard reporting buried in the back pages, while many of these same publications and "news" programs totally ignored those same buried truths which had already been revealed by them when it came to punditry, opinion and editorial pages. The greater truth I learned was that the corporate media was to a large extent inbred, to the point of being rigid in their thought and analysis, fearful of bucking the status quo, and working in spite of superficial political differences toward the same corporate supremest agenda.

The lowering of the Presidency Bar and by extension the qualifications required of Bush was obviously corporate media promoted propaganda, regardless of opposition charges on a still nascent Internet.

72. Other: Does he FEEL anything at all?
Well, maybe he does moreso than Cheney- who simply has no soul- but I would bet that in order to maintain his mental and emotional equilibrium/sanity he will need to find some way to remain in a perpetual state of MASSIVE denial about his eight years as (P)resident and all of the things history will ultimately hold him responsible for. It may be so bad for him that he may not even be able to acknowledge that he WAS (P)resident for eight years. Republicans are nothing if not the masters of historical revisionism- although I'm not sure how they will ever "rehabilitate" GWB but then again, I'm not a Republican so I wouldn't know. :eyes:

But it's a toss-up between "Who cares?" and "Hung over."
