BUSH to throw out first pitch at Rangers game... Boos or Cheers?
I'm actually a Rangers fan... so I'll be watching on the web.

Big question... will BUSH be cheered or Boo'ed?

Fact #1, lol he's incredibly unpopular.

Fact #2, is the Metroplex (baseball fans in particular) more right leaning?

My first blush it 60% Boo's drowning out a weak cheer... but then I've never lived in Texas. If they're bat-shit crazy there he may be cheered...

I'm still leaning toward an even ratio with the Boo's being LOUDER.

1. Someone will probably fiddle with the sound
That way, even if there's a majority of boos, all we'll hear at the sports bars are cheers with an occasional boo here and there, and some snide comment from one of the color guys that "I guess you can't please everyone."

16. Just like they did when Sarah Palin dropped the hockey puck...
canned cheers turned up to 11 to drown out live and empassioned booing.

I could still hear more booing than cheering in Palin's case. That brought me joy.

2. Maybe he'll be shoe'd?
That would rock if he were pelted with thousands of shoes at the same time.

Then again, it is Texas.

8. nah,
this is like his 10th time he's done it... and he usually throws a decent pitch. But he's older now... lol so he might bounce it.

Take all that effort isolating rogue states like Cuba and North Korea and put it to good use -- quarantine Texas. Give some relocation benefits to the few sane people there to move elsewhere and let it be the waste repository for stupid rednecks. Then they can cheer King Dunderhead all they want.

12. Ballpark crowds are not really representative of their communities anymore
Back in the days when tickets were easily obtainable and cheap, you had crowds that reflected the fan base.

Now, with tickets being much more expensive and more of the seats being reserved for well-to-do season ticket holders and corporate groups, you do not have a crowd that reflects the fan base.

In Texas, well to do people like Bush and what he represents, so I think he'll be hearing a good deal of cheering from this privileged crowd.

25. actually, Rangers tickets are among the cheapest in baseball
Last year the average price of a ticket to see the Rangers was around 18 bucks, which put the team 25th out of 29 teams in terms of average ticket price. Compare that to tickets to see the Washington Nationals -- average price last year was almost 29 bucks. And both the Yankees and the Mets get, on average, in the neighborhood of 35 bucks per ticket -- nearly twice what it costs to see the Rangers.

Having attended games in all of those cities (but, obviously not the new Mets and Yankees parks), my impression is that the crowd at the nationals games is "least representative" of its community (although, that's a subjective judgment -- for example, I am a white professional, which arguably is representative of a big part of the DC community; and I happened to have grown up in the DC area).

30. I guarantee you the price of tickets in Boston or NY would not save Bush from being booed
the heck out if he ever tried to throw out the first pitch in either of those cities. Same goes for Chicago, Dodger Stadium and probably lots of other places. Philly, as we know, will boo anybody it seems :)

15. As a guy who goes to the ballpark in Arlington quite a bit
I think he will probably get a very warm welcome. Patriotic displays are always being put on there in pregames, especially on weekends. I have seen young men and women take their oaths to serve in various branches of service at several pregame festivities. And a lot of folks parachuting into the stadium as well, with Lee Greenwood's shit song playing on the intercom.

Very right wing, folks. Glad I'm not going today. I would be pissed about the extra security for one thing. And it would be difficult for me to keep my shoes on.:)

26. Big Ovation and Cheers. I guess it was expected down there
In his first big appearance locally since moving to Dallas from the White House, Bush received a standing ovation and overwhelming cheers from a crowd of about 40,000 after the public address announcer said to "welcome home the 43rd president."
