Mittens: Don't root for Obama to fail
Romney: Don't root for Obama to fail

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) said Wednesday that Republicans shouldn’t oppose President Obama as a reflex and should praise him when he succeeds.

Speaking at the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s (NRSC) spring dinner, Romney was thick on criticism of Obama, but also said Republicans shouldn’t root against the man Romney might well face in the 2012 presidential election.

After offering a few choice words for Obama’s early conduct in office, Romney suggested it’s OK to hope things go well under the new president.

“I also think its important for us to nod to the president when he’s right,” Romney said. “He will not always be wrong.”

Romney praised Obama for not pulling troops from Iraq haphazardly and for going after terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He also said Obama has been good at talking tough to the struggling auto industry.

Romney then offered some backhanded encouragement for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, upon whom some Republicans have called to resign.

1. Yep, he'll be the nominee in 2012.
I've never been so sure of anything in my entire life.

4. The midterm and 2012 GE have begun already.
Job One:

Associate the failures of the last administration to the present one, establish "I told you so" premises in advance of any future economic or other crises.

3. Interesting...
... but good luck in getting that approach to prosper among your fellow Republicans, Mr. Romney, many of whom (through their bully pulpits) do exactly what you suggest they should NOT do: oppose Obama (and all Democrats) as a reflex, based on the premise that simply being a Democrat *is* wrong. Such people will be unable to praise him when he succeeds -- although you can be certain that they will say they'd happy to do so -- because in their opinion that circumstance will never actually occur.
