1. Considering its an election we should not be having if
Gov. Patterson had any brains, I guess the fact we're still in it is a good sign.

2. Paterson could have appointed a non-elected citizen for the US Senate seat.
I think appointing a US Rep. (Especially one that won twice in a hard-to-win district if you are a Democrat) displayed discipline.

6. plenty of reps. in seats we would have easily won exist in NY
Maloney, Israel, Nadler, Mccarthy come to mind. In addition, who could forgot Cuomo or Caroline Kennedy, who we would not have even had to potentially risk a seat for.

4. It could be, but the news reports I have seen say that
all the absentee ballots have not been counted. Republicans seem to generally have a higher rate in absentee balloting and I would expect that will hold up in such a conservative district, so it might not end up a win... but in any event it is a very strong performance by an unknown democrat in that neck of the woods.
