BREAKING: Sebelius tax problems surface
WASHINGTON (AP) — Health and Human Services nominee Kathleen Sebelius has corrected three years worth of tax returns after finding “unintentional errors.”

Sebelius alerted senators to the changes in a letter dated Tuesday that was obtained by The Associated Press. She says the changes involved charitable contributions, the sale of a home and business expenses.

She and her husband paid a total of $7,040 in back taxes and $878 in interest from 2005-2007.

It’s the latest tax issue to hit an Obama administration nominee. His first HHS nominee withdrew because of major tax problems.

1. No big deal.
But I do think more will be coming down the pike about Sebelius.
This is totally a gut feeling, but I'm rarely wrong.

4. Can't imagine what that might be?
She seems pretty clean to us here in KS.

2. With our set of tax laws, we should be more surprised when anyone gets it right!

10. Right
They certainly helped kept the Bush (mis-)administration honest and helped look out for the best interests of the American people. Thanks to them, we'll never again be subject to government by people who might have made some "mistakes" in their past-even if their "mistakes" don't amount to a hill of beans.
:sarcasm:

It's too bad none of Obama's nominees ever wrote memos giving the President/Vice-President/Defense Secretary the authority to order individuals held indefinitely and tortured for "intelligence purposes", ordered an illegal and unprovoked invasion/occupation of a sovereign country, or allowed fraud, waste, and abuse of taxpayer money to run rampant in said country. You just know that THEY'D be instantly confirmed without barely a cursory glance and then get off scot-free from any current and/or future criminal prosecution for their misdeeds.

Quick question: Why do "tax problems" suddenly seem to be such a prevalent problem all of the sudden with a lot of Obama's nominees? I'd like a show of hands from anybody in the media, Congress, or among anybody who seems to care enough about minor tax problems to demand that a nominee NOT be confirmed because of them to see just exactly how many people have made minor errors on THEIR tax returns at one time or another? How many of Bush's nominees, particularly those that came directly from the private sector not only made minor tax "errors" but probably hid money in offshore accounts and/or found other "creative" ways of avoiding pay what they really owe? Did the corporate media whore conglomerates ever do any hard-hitting investigations of THEM? *crickets chirping* Didn't think so. :grr:

5. Honest to gawd, these so-called tax problems
shouldn't be problems at all.

I have my taxes done by a CPA and he made a mistake on a tax form 2 years ago.

How can we expect perfection on this issue? It seems like it just a 'gotcha' by news media.

6. Yet another reason to revise our Byzantine tax code
If these folks who can afford the best accountants can't consistantly get it right, something is very, very wrong with the code.

on every single nominee of the Obama administration.

And isn't it weird how few tax problems Bush appointees just happened to have had.
I'm sure that means those folks are much more honest and law abiding, right?

Who runs the IRS anyways? Seems pretty suspicious how many Tax problems
are showing up timed just so.

14. Exactly what I've been wondering, FrenchieCat
Even with all the Abramoff and Marianas connections, I don't recall one issue with tax problems from Bush appointees.

Yet almost every Obama nominee has somehow had an issue.

It seems very suspicious to me as well.

16. That's why, if I read any faux outrage on this site,
I'm just gonna give them the hand!

I know why the media does it; they have an agenda......but here, no one actually should.

20. I don't believe the IRS is uncovering these errors
It's the vetting team that is finding them.

11. Who gives a damn?
This stuff kept popping up all through the bush years and the media never said jack shit.

This will undoubtedly become "Breaking News" on cnn and fox but it's no BFD.

My accountant had to file an amended 2006 return because he made a $2000 error. I mean an error that got me $2000 more.

But it's gone the other way in the past. And as someone posted above it's a miracle anybody ever gets it right.
