DU THIS CNN POLL! How would you grade President Obama's first 50 days in office?
Edited on Wed Mar-11-09 01:38 PM by Median Democrat
You know the drill.

http://www.cnn.com/

P.S. It is only 50 days? Listening to the media, you would have thought that its been the full 4 years, and Obama was expected to establish a utopia by now.

2. I don't recall a 50 day verdict on Bush, do you?
I think they're looking for anything to knock Obama down a notch...you know, the old "build 'em up and then knock 'em down" thing that the media likes to do, consciously or otherwise. I get so tired of it. Obama's trying to reverse the course of a runaway train and they're nitpicking. Pretty disgusting really.

4. Dubya Did Squat, Except Set The Stage For Current Trillion Dollar Deficit
Dubya did not do much in his first 100 days. Worse, what he did do set the stage for the current crises that Obama is dealing with. The Bush tax cuts lead to an explosion in the current deficit. Also, Bush's backing out of Kyoto lead to an eight year effort to deny the effects of climate change. Yet, Bush has a 62% approval rating as the media gave him a relative free pass.

Compare that with Obama who not only has inherited a terible economy and two wars from Bush, but is dealing with behavior from Republicans that borders upon treason. Yet, I am sure the mainstream media will start running stories next month about how much more successful Bush was by virtue of his high approval ratings.

/snip

George W. Bush had to fight to become president. After he took office, thanks to lingering questions over the election and his predecessor's slow withdrawal from the spotlight, he had to fight to be considered presidential.

But at the 100-day mark of his tenure, that issue seems to be fading. Bush enjoys high job approval ratings -- higher than Bill Clinton at a similar juncture in his presidency -- and even the question of vision that plagued Bush's father does not appear to be an issue.

3. I chose "Good"
There's still room for improvement, but Obama's on the right track.

7. EXCELLENT plus GOOD = 59%
THAT'S the number that should be compared to that POOR figure of 22%. Splitting the FAIR evenly, would give a line up of about 69% to 31%. Those are the figures had the poll been framed even-handedly!

17. He's working hard and he's doing great.
Even though it's going to take a while to dissect this train wreck of an economy and get it back on track, I feel really good about about where he's taking us in the future. :hi:

I myself am amazed at what he's accomplished in 50 days, considering I thought it would take YEARS to do what's already been done! :)

19. I could only give him a "good". . .
there's lots of room for improvement in areas like economics, healthcare, Afghanistan, and gay rights, to name a few . . . but all in all, he's doing a remarkable job for someone who's been in office less than two months . . . still much, much more to do, but considering the mess that was left him, he's doing about the best that could be expected -- or even hoped for . . .

and I think Obama is one of the few contemporary political leaders who actually has the intellect, the energy, and a progressive heart that will be needed to attack the "much, much more" and initiate some real progress over time . . . I look forward to whatever comes next . . .
