The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll (GOP) and Mr Hyde (Rush Limbaugh) - The Metamorphosis Is Complete

For folks who have read the story of the Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde, consider this parallel to the modern day Republican party. First, here is a short synopsis of the story:

The second letter constitutes a testament by Jekyll. It explains how Jekyll, seeking to separate his good side from his darker impulses, discovered a way to transform himself periodically into a deformed monster free of conscience—Mr. Hyde. At first, Jekyll reports, he delighted in becoming Hyde and rejoiced in the moral freedom that the creature possessed. Eventually, however, he found that he was turning into Hyde involuntarily in his sleep, even without taking the potion. At this point, Jekyll resolved to cease becoming Hyde. One night, however, the urge gripped him too strongly, and after the transformation he immediately rushed out and violently killed Sir Danvers Carew. Horrified, Jekyll tried more adamantly to stop the transformations, and for a time he proved successful; one day, however, while sitting in a park, he suddenly turned into Hyde, the first time that an involuntary metamorphosis had happened while he was awake

Rush Limbaugh Is Mr. Hyde and GOP Moderates Are Dr. Jeckle. We are now at the point where the metamorphosis is irreversible, and the GOP can no longer distance itself from Rush Limbaugh.

Originally, Rush Limbaugh would spew hate, and the GOP rejoiced in the moral freedom that the creature possessed. Rush helped the GOP mobilize right wing extremists and young college brown shirts. The GOP benefited from this activism, but did not get the moral blame for Rush's racist and sexist rantings. The GOP got to remain the respectable Dr. Jeckle. The problem is that the GOP has now become Rush. They are now co-dependent, and the GOP is a captive of the extremists such that any "moderates" are forced to kowtow to idealogues like Limbaugh. Worse, since Rush does not have to run for election, he never has to be held accountable for his lies. He continues to revel in his lack of morality like Mr. Hyde.
