Obama: Caterpillar will rehire if stimulus passes

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama says Caterpillar's chief executive has told him the company will rehire some laid-off workers if the stimulus bill passes.

The heavy equipment maker announced more than 22,000 job cuts last month as it scales back production amid the economic slowdown. During a visit to a transportation construction site just outside Washington in Springfield, Va., on Wednesday, Obama urged Congress to pass the bill. The House and Senate are working out differences between competing versions of the legislation.

Obama said Caterpillar's CEO has told him that if the stimulus bill passes he would be able to rehire some of those employees.

Obama is to speak with some of those workers on Thursday when he visits a Caterpillar manufacturing plant in Peoria, Ill.

4. We need more of that. That's corporate leadership. That, my friends, is change.
Go CAT!!!

Caterpillar is also among the pioneers of the Climate Action Partnership, who addressed congress in 2007 to tell them that climate change was real and that they weren't going to wait for congress to take action.

They addressed congress the day before Bush's State of the Union Address, a sort of FUCK YOU thing to do, IMO.

7. When major CEOs are talking like this
the GOP only looks more and more foolish. I hope America is paying attention, not just to President Obama and his team, but to the actions of the cabal called Congressional republicans.

If I were in the market for a tractor or piece of large machinery, I'd buy Cat!

Seriously, that kind of attitude could catch on and perhaps would happen at companies whose products I could buy.
