1. The whole Obama vs Rush thing is idiotic.
Why is anybody comparing the two? A radio host vs POTUS? This is what Rush wants and the media is playing into it.

Now Rush is calling for a meeting with Obama. It's ridiculous. Who'd Obama meet with after that, Howard Stern?

5. Politico is just trying to garner attention as always
Their headlines are always catchy and disingenuous in many instances. It does seem that Rush is becoming the de facto head of the Repukers, which is great for our side. To be honest I didn't read the article I just jumped into the comments and have joined the skirmishing with the loonies. Been having fun :)

16. Every great President had an enemy
Rush as an enemy fits perfectly. A RW conservative guy who got divorced 3 times and should be in jail for prescription drug fraud vs. A moral married man with two beautiful kids.

22. I'm trying to think of Presidential "enemies" from the past and no one comes to mind.
Do you have some examples?

Setting him up as an enemy makes him seem more important than he is, almost like he's equivalent to the POTUS somehow. It's elevating him to the same level when in fact he's nothing but a blow hard echoing right wing talking points.

The whole thing looks to me like an engineered attempt to cause the appearance of a battle between two equivalent foes. The media keeps going on about it, and there appears to be an online astroturf campaign to get people to take sides. Notice however that, aside from one offhand remark by Obama, all of the rhetoric seems to be coming from one side.

Don't fall for this people. They want us to take sides. They want to make this a appear to be a battle between two equivalent political foes when, in reality, Limbaugh doesn't even belong on the battlefield.

33. Newt and Father Phleger.
I assume by "Newt" you mean Newt Gingrich vs Bill Clinton. I don't recall any high profile battle between the two where people were asked to take sides, but I wasn't paying as much attention to politics at that time so I may have just missed it. In any case Newt was a politician and not a talk show host, so it makes more sense than Obama vs Limbaugh.

I never heard of Phleger until you just now mentioned him and I looked him up. Phleger is a foil to Obama so he's not an example of an enemy of other great presidents. In any case, I'd never heard of him before and I've been politically aware the last few years so he's apparently not too high profile an enemy.

It seemed to me that you were implying that having a high profile enemy can add to a President's greatness. I just can't see that as being a reliable rule. Having a blowhard like limbaugh issuing challenges adds nothing to Obama and, in my opinion, Obama should not respond to him and should mention him as little as possible if at all.

40. I'd love to have that battle
Limbaugh and the vast right wing conspiracy would lose. For decades they've gotten away with keeping power by spreading lies and hatred. They are still a major threat.

If most people knew what actually went on in the right wing media they'd be offended. So the GOP elected people stand clear of all the muck while the guys like Limbaugh bring great benefits to the GOP. Its time we end this arrangement.

Let the public know what Limbaugh is up to. Make the GOP politicians either support or oppose Limbaugh. Those who support should be tagged with all of Limbaugh's outrages. Those who oppose Limbaugh will be attacked by Limbaugh and will enrage the fanatical base. Either way they lose.

If politicians all reject Limbaugh, he'll look powerless. He'll lose his appeal.

Ignoring the right wing media was always a big mistake. Its time to take them down.

24. In all respect
that's completely irrelevant to my argument. My point was that Limbaugh is simply a media personality who doesn't deserve to be elevated to some sort of equivalent political foe to Obama.

And don't raise concerns over McCain and his war hero veteran image. And now in effect, don't raise concerns over stimulating job creation.

10. Propping up Limpballz as defacto Repuke leader may not be a bad thing.
That would keep anybody remotely coherant and competent from claiming the role (almost typed "assuming the position" - LOL!).

25. I agree!
Rush takes the bait because he can't resist. Obama wrestles him to the ground with one finger. Rush is a pea-brained loud-mouthed college drop-out whose main talent is gathering the outcasts of society into a bunch of "ditto-heads" with his supposed "talent on loan from God".

7. Exactly.
They're trying to create the appearance of some sort of battle between Limbaugh and Obama. It's ludicrous. There is no battle. The only one battling is Limbaugh.

This has nothing to do with the important business of governing the nation.

19. I'm trying to think of any form of competition
in which Rush would prevail over President Obama. Of any kind. Scrabble, hopscotch, policy debate, shot put. Obama comes out on top. Wresting, ala Harggard vs Haggard's Gay Side, Obama again looks like the winnner.
Rush might win a drinking game vs Obama. Practice does make perfect.

When it encourages this kind of crap, it is merely reverting to type. The whole place is a sham and a waste of bandwidth.
