The Stimulus Package that Passes Will Be a HUGE Disappointment
The Republicans WILL amend this bill in the Senate. Then, they're going to send it back to Congress. This will not be over anytime soon. This is why Obama talks about bipartisanship. He can't push through an extremely pro-Democrat bill because it'll be rejected. The bill he wants passed is very much passable for Republicans. They want what THEY WANT! They're trying to impose their will on the President and act as if they're still in control. They want to water it down as much as possible, they don't want a huge success of a stimulus package. That equals a major win for Obama.

2. It'll pass.
Fuck the filibuster. It'll pass however Obama wants it. The Republicans have no credibility and no mandate.

3. They'll Compromise On A Small Face-Saving Change
The Rethugs don't want to be seen as obstructionist, so they'll settle for a small change so they can pretend they had an influence.

5. They want more tax cuts...period
Obama has already changed things they didn't want like the contraception thingy. They don't care about anything but tax cuts.

6. I don't think so. Obama knows he has to do this right, it's the most
important thing he's ever done in his life & he knows it.

9. Time will tell. At the moment all we can do is trust he'll make the best decision.

14. and it will be
he is large and in charge, so whatever he wants is pretty much guaranteed for now. but maybe the details dont matter al that much, i can see people making this succeed just to honor Obama and a new positive direction, should that continue to happen.

and it is a very large bet with nothing close to a guarantee that it will actually reignite the economy. the larger it is, the farther he goes out on a limb politically (and WE go out on that limb debt-wise). i hope he's got a very solid concensus. i know he's smart enough to decide from the best advice, what a breath of fresh air that is. almost makes me want to support the damn thing.

13. I don't see very many of their proposals in there.
The tax cuts are not even tax cuts. They are certainly not supply-side. Just because he talks to them doesn't mean he's capitulating to them.

7. That is pure bs. Obama has the goodwill of 80% of the country.

If he went to the people and gave a press conference informing Americans of the Republicans sabotaging a stimulus bill that benefits average Americans, the reps phones would ring off the hook.

There is NO excuse for caving to the repukes.

NONE.

11. Time for a little "fireside chat"
to let the American people know that the Republican Party is preventing him from helping us. That ought to do it.

10. Since we can do it without them, maybe Obama should take the offer(s) back.
At least Obama is sincere in what he is attempting to do, whether it works or not. The Republicans seem to still be listening to Rush.

12. IF the democrats were smart, and they are NOT, they would
BEG the repugs to filibuster this bill. Let them explain to middle class america why they are holding up the economy as it crashes around them.

15. They ARE in control until we shove important bills down their throats
the way they shoved bills down ours when they were in control. The achilles heel of the Democratic party is they want to sing "cumbaya" with the Republicans so they can kiss Blue Dog ass. I would love to see a party capable of standing up and having its own ideas.
