I always thought it was silly to redo everything just to suit the tastes of the new occupants. It's not like there's a bunch of ragged furniture sitting around in the White House.

We need to stop spending money on things that aren't necessary. The rug on the floor isn't important at all in the big scheme of things.

There's actually something like an entire warehouse full of White House furniture and decorative objects once can choose from, generally left behind by former residents. Getting a new carpet wouldn't necessarily mean making a new purchase.
