So...who was taken back to a high school lockerroom when Warren read the Lord's Prayer
Until I was 17, I thought the final words were "And the glory for ever and ever. Amen. NOW LET'S KICK SOME ASS!!!!"

Just me?

Ok.

3. Because infants often recite the Lord's Prayer?
Interesting....

2. I thought he included it so later when people beat up on his prayer,
he can claim they're hating on Jesus.

4. But it didn't remind you of the time we beat city high in the regionals?
No?

(Once again, my attempts at levity appear to be falling short).

8. No, I get it. I had just tuned out by the end of it.
But I get where you're going. :)

5. His sermon-length "prayer" was wothless. Keep it simple stupid. KISS.

6. warren is why god invented the mute button on my remote
so I have no idea just how bad he was, but it felt like it went on for longer than it should have. I noticed he didn't look very hapy, or didn't look up from his paper.

Visually he was pretty uninspiring.

7. But did it make you want to turn a double play?
(I take it no one ever played high school sports for a heavyset Italian).

9. I know not of what you speak.
But if you're mocking warrens speech, fine by me...

I just look at his face and have instant dislike and distrust. Squinty eyes and all.

11. As a good little Church of Christ girl....
... I KNOW he said it incorrectly. Should have been, "now that thy kingdom has come..." :)

Anyone needing a theological explanation of that is welcome to IM me.

12. I thought about that too. Get ready for kickoff!
It's funny, I'm an atheist now but I still get fired up at the lord's prayer because of football.

13. Saying the Protestant Lord's prayer on a day begging for national unity
- Not a Red State, not a Blue State, But the United States of America! was at minimum disingenuous, if not down right offensive to all non-believers in that version of that prayer. As a recovered Catholic, we never used that ending and knew whenever anyone in a public setting said the Protestant version they were attempting to try to declare their self-percieved supremecy over all who were not them. We never bought that anyone was better than us or not as fully human as us. It was one of the legacies of my ancesters.

For one, I had an Irish-Catholic great-grandfather, John Kelly, from Belfast who as a child was beaten by Ulster Protestant punks as he walked to school and church. When he came to America and worked as and raised seven children, he reminded them that he would not tolerate any put downs of any people for who they were or what they believed. That family tradition of unbending tolerance of other who are different than us has been passed down to my generation and our children. Now our extended family includes decendants of Africa, Asia, Pacific Islands, Spain, Italy, Ireland, England, Scotland, Denmark, Sweeden and France and others that I am may not fully know.

I more liked the Rev Lowry's prayer!

Have you forgotten that tradition?

14. If you grew up in a small town, it would be impossible to not have said it before a sporting event
My Little League baseball coach made us say it. My high school football coach made us say it (before and after games). We did it in high school baseball occasionally.

And it always built to this cool crescendo right before we took the field.

17. We did go 13-0 my junior year
So...it seemed to work.

At my wedding a few months ago, some high school friends and I were reminiscing about this (17 years later). We still know the prayer our coach always gave by heart.

"We pray not to win, but win if we shall. We pray that nobody gets hurt. We pray that we honor you. We thank you for the time we have left together. Let us pray: Our father who art in heaven....."
