Roberts Screwed up administering the Oath to Obama
Edited on Tue Jan-20-09 01:33 PM by Phred42
Was it Roberts first FU to Obama?

Or just an 'innocent' mistake?

Update: 12:33 cst

On CNN, Wolf Blitzer said, "John Roberts had one job to do today and he sort of screwed up." Jeffrey Toobin replied, "I almost fell out of my chair."

10. Doesn't matter
Obama became President at noon regardless of the oath. It's in the constitution.

6. I don't know why, but for some reason I found it endearing
It was like Obama was so eager to take the oath. I really couldn't tell who's fault it was. Obama is usually so perfect and poised that this was very human.

9. It wasn't just the beginning...
Roberts fucked up the phrase "office of President of the United States." He only said "office of President." And it threw Obama off. It threw me off. Anyone who has seen past Inaugurations knows that the Chief Justice is supposed to recite the full title.

12. Yes, that sounds right
Obama caught it, and smiled and glossed right over it.

Weird about roberts mucking it up. Probably some sort of (subconscious) resistance on his part to swearing in a democrat.

Oh well, sucks to be roberts.

President Obama. That's all I needed to hear.

7. Innocent mistake? Well what else did Roberts have to do today that would have been distracting him?
Reciting the oath of office correctly should hardly be a strain on the memory or focus of a Supreme Court Justice. With all the time he's had to practice it, and the obvious fact that the world's eyes will on him, there's no excuse for getting it wrong.
