Looking back, did we ever think we'd get here?
There were times when I didn't think we'd make it. Through all the horrors and scandals and constitution trashing, I was sure the good ol' US of A was down for the count.

Our edges have been burnt, scarred badly.

But my God. folks, it's here...the moment!

That golden moment of transition, barring anything unforeseen event this weekend,

It's here, we can move on, now...

Lots of hard work ahead of us, but at least we will have a leader that has his head and heart in the right place, an intelligent man that can not only put sentences together properly,

But tends to make speeches that are made for the history books. I get misty just thinking about it, and how lucky we've suddenly become!

It's cool to be an American again!

God, please bless Barack Obama, President of The United States!

Please, watch over him, us, the planet.

It's here! And we're here to witness it!

The moment's here at last!!!

1. And we shouldn't forget, that we wouldn't be here...
if it wasn't for us here at DU, and others at the various progressive sites, who researched, wrote letters, signed on to petitions, sent emails, talked to their Congress Critters, blathered on forever to anyone who would listen (and even to some who had their fingers in their ears), protested, participated in civil disobedience, campaigned, donated, knocked on doors, called endless lists of people, and refused to give up.

We did this. We made this happen through our perseverance and belief that we can do better, that what the lying weasel and his cronies did was not acceptable, and would not wash.

Each of us, in our own little or sometimes, big way, made a difference. I really believe this. We and so many others like us, made this happen.

Hats off to all of us (tinfoil included). We did it. Now we have to protect what we have gained, and continue to make more progress. Can we do it? Yeah, I think we've proved we can.

4. The future sure looked bleak as hell
I was on the verge of just giving up and accepting that we live in a Dictatorship. If Obama hadn't been elected we would be. I believe we were that close. McCain would have been a continuation of the worst policies of the Bush Administration and he would have had the younger people training to eventually take over for Cheney et al. The neo cons would have finally consolidated their power with an iron grip.

I still feel like life changed in one day. On 11/4/08. The birds can sing again.

It's not as though he hasn't been using the Constitution as toilet paper for his entire residency.

If he had declared martial law and created himself Beloved President for Life, I wouldn't have been one bit surprised. So his leaving quietly, leaving a leader like Barack Obama in charge, is like the raising of Lazarus. America gets one more chance.

6. As soon as McCain said the fundementals of the economy were strong
the election was over. He couldn't have tossed the election more effectively if he conceded in September.

8. One foot in front of the other...
Never wavering, never stopping, no matter the burden to bear. Battling Fundies, Freepers, propagandists and the asshole across the alley. straight up hill our goal seemingly never in sight.

yes we put the right man in the job at the right time in our history. we are proud.

(Secessionist Sarah Palins existence and selection helped too.)
