1. There was a post yesterday that provided a link that completely
debunks this.

I can't seem to find it now, though.

2. Here's a page
http://www.local8-0237.com/interesting_facts_rebuttal.htm

Somebody suggested this another time the same email was posted here. Seen it several times now. Lame attempt to justify an unjust war.

11. There are very few that WANT to be converted
they are willfully ignorant. They get the pResident they deserve-unfortunately we do too.

Most people can sense which folks are easily converted and those that are beyond hope.

13. But are they engaged?
Do they do more than cut/paste the same tired propaganda over and over again? Seems to me anybody willing to swallow absurdities -- like the invasion of Iraq being somehow akin to WWII -- is beyond reason. Do you actually convert such people?

8. Isn't it interesting that
Even though reich wingers go out of their way to mention how Clinton "exploited" the military for political gain and brought us into needless operations, they never mention the death toll through Clinton's entire two terms?

14. January was a bad month in Detroit
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 10:13 AM by noonwitch
The overall murder/violent crime rate went down substantially during the Clinton/Archer years. Mayor Archer made use of his friendship with Clinton and got some major funds to add cops to the police force and improve the enterprise zone neighborhoods.

The murder rate this year is going to be higher than the last few years. The city faced major budget cuts after Gov. Engler left office and left the state bankrupt by emptying out the rainy day funds and giving huge last minute tax breaks to his buddies. Without any further state or federal assistance, the city laid off lots of cops and other city employees. Couple that with a corrupt new mayor who wastes his police force by having them supervise stripper parties at the mayor's mansion, and you have a recipe for a rising crime rate, especially with the high unemployment rate currently in Michigan.

Most murders in Detroit are either domestic violence or drug-related. It is not any more dangerous than any other large city for the average person. I lived in Detroit from 1989-2001 and never was a crime victim.

The Iraq numbers are misleading, because they are only counting the deaths of US Military personnel. That would be akin to counting the number of cop murders in Detroit in January-I don't know that number, but it is probably less than 5. What's the iraqi civilian death toll for January? I'll bet it's a hell of a lot higher than 39.

15. The point I take is this:
Consider the US forces in Iraq as "the police". There were 39 "police" murdered in Iraq in January.

Now, if there were 35 "police" murdered in Detroit, that place would be in a total lockdown.

16. thanks...
all good points, but i am tired of seeing these things go unanswered, and i will answer them when they come to me...especially when i have been included in a distro that deserves a 'reply to all'....

What strikes me as even funny, is that whenever i do reply with 'facts' i never get another retort in return...it is sad that so many get this view of the email above and never even see the rebuttal....I would like to see a law where there is a debate once a month during the election....why not have both views available at the same time...frankly the Dems need to be better at rebuttal and faster too...

Why don't we have a section in DU on just rebuttal collections? Post a claim and the replys can be the rebuttal....very handy for the group.
