Obama Wants Journalist Gupta for Surgeon General

By Howard Kurtz

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2009/01/06/obama_wants_journalist_for_sur.html?hpid=topnews

According to The Washington Post, the offer of the Surgeon General position followed a two-hour Chicago meeting in November with the President-elect, who said that Gupta could be the highest-profile surgeon general in history and would have an expanded role in providing health policy advice. Gupta also reportedly met with with Tom Daschle, Obama's White House health czar and nominee for Health and Human Services secretary, and other advisers to the president-elect.

.........

Katie Couric also said this on the CBS Evening News tonight.

........

Again as my sig line says: What change....the journey begins.

5. Let's hope that Obama moves Gupta into a Holiday Inn Express.
Seeing as Gupta has zero background in public health or health policy, he's going to need it.

13. Well, get ready for expanded eugenics "studies" then.
Don't forget second class status for women too.

http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2008/07/25/extremist-steve-salier-is-source-for-cnns-black-in-america-series/

"In October 2006, CNN medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta reported on a study by J. Phillpe Rushton that purported to show that men, on average, are more intelligent than women. Gupta identified Rushton only as a professor of psychology at the University of Western Ontario. Since 2002, Rushton has been the head of the Pioneer Fund, a pro-eugenics foundation that funds the research of academic racists like Jared Taylor and Rushton, who himself has received over $1 million in Pioneer grants. Among Rushton’s findings are that on average blacks have larger genitals, breasts and buttocks, characteristics that, according to Rushton’s “research,” have an inverse relationship to brain size and, thus, intelligence."

15. Say what? Where have I heard that word "bigot" before? Oh yes - RW......
From the article:

http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2008/07/25/extremist-steve-salier-is-source-for-cnns-black-in-america-series/

"This isn’t the only time in recent history that CNN has turned to an unabashed bigot for commentary on controversial issues in America while cloaking the source’s full identity."

17. When Gupta attacked M Moore on his sources for Sicko he used Repub shill & didn't report it ...
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 09:00 PM by 1776Forever
From Media Matters
Wed, Jul 11, 2007:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200707120001

In Sicko "fact check," CNN's Gupta falsely claimed his source's "only affiliation is with Vanderbilt University"

(snip)

MOORE: Except -- except, let me say this, the one expert that you had in the piece is a person from a think tank group who is a big Republican contributor. He's done business with Blue Cross, with Aventis, with these other groups.

I mean don't you have a right as a journalist -- or a responsibility, actually, to tell the public when you're using an expert, this person is a Republican, he's with a think tank that's connected to Tommy Thompson --

(snip)

GUPTA: His only affiliation is with Vanderbilt University. We checked it, Michael. We checked his conflict of interest. We do ask those questions.

.....

Moore is proven to be correct in the article. Gupta attacked the Universal Health Care systems around the world in the CNN broadcast that Moore questioned him on. This was where Gupta said they all were bad and that the wait time Canada was terrible and not acceptable to him. He sounded like a shill for the Big Pharmaceutical and HMO companies when he did this.

18.  NaturalNews readers see Dr. Gupta as intelligent, healthy, dishonest, misinformed, fake & arrogant
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 09:10 PM by 1776Forever
Here We Go: Obama Wants CNN Doctor Sanjay Gupta as Surgeon General
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, January 6, 2009

http://www.naturalnews.com/News_000649_Dr_Sanjay_Gupta_Obama_Surgeon_General.html

President-elect Barack Obama's choice for U.S. Surgeon General is reportedly CNN journalist Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a pro-vaccine pusher with ties to Merck.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is a strong proponent of the Gardasil HPV vaccine, and the television show he once hosted ("Accent Health") was primarily sponsored by Merck, makers of Gardasil.

Gupta is also well known for his argument with Michael Moore over statements of fact in Moore's health care documentary, Sicko. A YouTube video of that argument is available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR2U_SAWHdQ

In April, 2008, NaturalNews readers participated in a survey rating various traits of popular health journalists. Here's how Dr. Sajay Gupta rated:

29% Humble / 71% Not
31% Generous / 69% Not
67% Healthy / 33% Not
37% Authentic / 63% Not
77% Intelligent / 23% Not
32% Honest / 68% Not
23% Informed / 77% Not

In other words, NaturalNews readers see Dr. Gupta as being intelligent and healthy, but dishonest, misinformed, fake and arrogant.

19. the very first part of the pr jobs is to SAY it's more than just a pr job?
they ALWAYS say it's more than it is.

every surgeon general i can recall has been introduced with some fanfare about how the job now takes on new significance or whatever.
