Just heard something on the radio...
that I think will amuse many of you. I think it was Michael Reagan's show. He said that he hopes Obama lied about his promise to cut taxes on the middle class. He said that it's a conservative policy but he hopes Obama doesn't enact it. And of course, the only reason for hoping that Obama won't enact it is that he feels it will help get Obama re-elected. Country be damned, even if it's a policy they agree with, simply because Obama wants to enact it, they'd rather see the country suffer in order to win a political game. That's what it is to them, a game. They don't give a damn about the issues. They cynically USE the issues to manipulate people into supporting their party, but to them it's just a game for power rather than actually trying to help the country. It's fucking pathetic to watch.

Reminds me of when Obama said we should strike Al Quaeda targets in Pakistan without asking the Pakistani government and there was a huge uproar from "conservatives" about it even though it's exactly the kind of hawkish policy they've supported and enacted in the past. And sure enough, the policy itself was enacted a few months later by the C.I.A. and actually worked. A good policy is a good policy, but the Republicans at this point don't give a damn about that. It's all about winning the game to them, like it's a sport or something.

1. You said it all...
they are hateful pitiful scum. Watching the Lee Atwater documentary kind of summed it all up for me. It's not about issues to them, it's about winning at all cost and tearing the other guy down. The people doing the most squealing are fucking rich and could care less about the rest of us.

2. Exactly...
The only thing about that policy they disagree with is Obama's tax hike on the wealthy. But they are admitting that tax cuts for the middle class is a good idea. And yet they hope he's lying about enacting such a policy? It has everything to do with win at all costs, the well-being of the country be damned.

4. And Obama didn't use any of their tactics to win.
Much as others say he moved to the right, I think he maintained his integrity.

A very interesting BBC video call "Century of the Self". It was mostly about consumerism and advertising and appealing to the emotions of buyers/voters.

The fourth and last one-hour segment looked at Clinton's re-election campaign and how focus groups and polling were used to develop campaign strategies.

It's worth a watch. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1122532358497501036

Obama could have pandered on the gas tax matter, but didn't, while Hillary AND John tried to use this deceitful device to win over voters, and with some success.

I love that we have who we have coming into the White House!

5. Amen NYC_SKP....
I do too. I can't wait for him to get in there and start working on fixing this mess. He's going to catch it from both sides for sure but I have his back! ;)

6. I've got his back until he proves otherwise...
There's one major thing I want him to deliver on and that's ending the war in Iraq. The rest of this shit is going to take a lot of time and patience to overcome the current mess. I'm a pretty moderate person so that was one of things about Obama's campaign that appealed to me.

7. I'm with you on that. This war needs to end and soon. Too many
on both sides are dying for no good reason at all. We never should have been there!

8. And it's a huge waste of tax dollars...
A vast majority of the country agrees that it needs to end.

3. Odd that from 2001 to 2007 the rightards never saw fit
to implement a middle class tax cut. Instead they rolled back income tax rates on the top end and handed corporations and the stupendously rich enormous breaks in capital gains and estate taxes. When out of power suddenly it is their idea.

Oh and regarding Pakistan - that debate and rightwing upset was, in our surreal political world, being conducted while Bush et al were conducting a savage series of attacks inside Pakistan, murdering hundreds of civilians, on the off chance that they would hit the bin laden lotto and salvage the election.

10. It is NOT a game to them, friend, it is a CRUSADE and always has been.
And just like the historical Crusaders disemboweled Muslim children there is no extreme the GOPukes will not go to in order to achieve their goals. There is a festering evil in the hearts of people who worship corporations over human beings, and the GOPukes are just the most obvious examples of the rot.

And WE look away and think this is just some sort of political game for these people.

Okay, sure. And so was the Reich.
