Rick Warren is Handsome
Ok, now that I got your attention, why not drop all this negativity and infighting among brethren. We should be exhilarated that we have a great President like Barack Obama, who by the way, is very handsome, masculine, elegant and intelligent. We have a Secretary of State with a 5-star intellect and a force to be reckoned with in Foreign Affairs. We have a fantastic Secretary of Commerce who makes us Hispanics proud and we have a Cabinet that is the envy of the world. Issues like Rick Warren, Is-Caroline-Kennedy-Ready-to-Be-Senator, which need to be discussed and vigorously debated become distractions when we get carried away and rehash the Primaries and make us fight regarding the Gay Marriage issue. I think that we should concentrate on the historical significance of the Obama Presidency and put things in perspective. Just my opinion and Happy Holidays to everyone.

2. I think it is a solid Cabinet. Many intellectuals and strong opinions and it shows that Obama
is not afraid of diverging voices since he is the one that makes the final decision.

G&L issues are very important to some people. So please do not underestimate their fight.

4. I have been on the trenches of the LGBT fight, my brother and uncle are gay and
they are my heroes, no better men in the world than them.

5. it's a human rights issue, NOT a gay marriage issue, and is more than a "distraction"
I could give a fuck if Obama was ugly, effeminate, and crude. I do care that he is intelligent, but what matters to me most is policy. As per the rest of the post, you can cherry pick a few decent appointments but it doesn't mask the reality that the Cabinet is chock full of DLC corporate sellouts, sexists, Monsanto warriors, NCLB heroes, etc.

Please do not marginalize the very justified reaction to all of these things. Obama is a politician, and will choose political expediency over taking a stand every time, unless there is sufficient pressure from the people.

9. Do we agree that, especially on the internet, there's pressure for pressure's sake and then there is
pressure for other purposes, only one of which is pressure for an actual solution to the Evils of things like Prop 8?

12. I can only speak for myself.
I'm sure there are many who come and just vent, and then there are those who use this forum as a tool for activism and creating solidarity, just as there are those who intentionally come to disrupt, and I'm 99% sure some of those people are paid to come here and do just that.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to argue here.

18. Not arguing. Just making an observation and trying to assess whoever it is
that I am speaking with.

I think venting is a useful thing too.

21. oh I certainly agree!
venting is VERY important, and so is putting up and opinion and seeing how people react to it. I don't expect Americans or even all DUers to become activist overnight, but the very fact that we still have a forum for discussion is very vital to me.

8. I stand by my statement. Obama is handsome, manly and his Cabinet is solid.
I know that many here are disappointed but he has selected his Cabinet to balance all ideas and positions in his Administration

14. Why is manliness so important to you? RuPaul could potentially make a good president
I'll bet I agree with RuPaul's political positions more than I do Obama's.

7. I don't give a shit if Obama is handsome and masculine
What I care about is what he does.

For instance he promised to increase NASA's budget during the primaries and there are reports that suggest the exact opposite. That is just WRONG.

10. Those ideas have been implanted by propaganda.
If you take a close look at Obama's picks,
you will see that they are not so great.

Many of them are loyal representatives of
the corporofascist establishment and the
wrongminded backasswards views of how a
good and fair economy should run.

Very bad and disturbing choices have been
made with the selection of Gates, Jones,
Geithner, Vilsack, and some others.

Very few progressives and intellectuals
from the anti-Rubin, anti-Friedman folks
have been chosen.. just a crumb or two
with the likes of Susan Rice and Steven Chu.

13. No, you see that's my point. So far it has been a good discussion and nobody is attacking
each other. The most important thing is that in Obama we will have a President that will support gay rights, Hispanic rights, women's rights, the rights for all Americans but I realize that he will have priorities. He said that during Debate II when asked about his plans for energy, economy and foreign affairs. As much as I liked Bill Clinton, I think that he caved in to pressure from conservative groups much too early.regarding healthcare and gays in the military. I believe that Obama will not do that.

26. And we have Tom Daschle for Health and Human resources secretary.
I hope that the Secretary of the Treasury keeps an eye on him because if he brings us the universal health care he's advocating, you can be sure the bank will be broken.
