As Rachel said last night, "after all it is the president of the USA" so maybe I shouldn't laugh. But It's funny and even the late night comedians know it's funny. Yes, it could have been a bomb or a gun but it wasn't--it was size ten shoes. What I particularly laugh at is when the reporter hurls a shoe and says, "Here's your farewell kiss you dog." I can just imagine Pickles doing this every couple of weeks or so saying the exact same words or maybe subsituting a vase for the shoes. Maybe that is how the chimp was so expert at ducking away from them?

The only thing not funny is that I worry about what will happen to the reporter who threw the shoes. He was tortured, lost family and friends in an illegal and bloody war and finally got the opportunity to tell the chimp what he thought.

15. Of course it was funny.
The punditocracy frequently can't figure out funny 'cause they are very serious types. Madow falls victim to this at times as well.

2. I do worry about the reporter. He might be being tortured
all over Bush having to dodge some old stinky shoes.

3. It's funny.
He really deserves a trial in the world court, so I can't get upset about a shoe throwing incident. The theory that he deserves respect smacks of the Rovian remaking of GW. He deserves prison.

9. For some reason I don't find it funny. I guess it reminds me of how
many Iraqi victims there are of this war or something. I know I'm being a wet blanket.

10. Did you watch Letterman last night?
OMG!

He said he was "surprised how fast Bush moved. Too bad he didn't move that fast on bin Laden, Katrina, the financial crisis..."

He also said Bush hasn't dodged anything that fast since Vietnam.

At one point, his stage manager, Biff Henderson, threw his shoes at Dave.

It's okay to laugh. I agree with you about being concerned for the reporter's well-being. I'm hoping they'll realize that he's the first real hero to the Iraqi people in decades and release him soon.

16. It truly is funny

And I doubt that many of those who are laughing hysterically would be doing the same if it was a truly dangerous weapon and the president was hurt. At least I hope not. As much as I hate him, I don't truly wish that on him or our country.

It wasn't a bullet, Shrub wasn't hurt, and even he found humor in it.

I still laugh.
