Mainstream media's utter, careless distortions "linking" Obama to Blagojevich

Media Matters has been doing a fantastic job covering the mainstream media distortions and contortions regarding trying to link Obama to Blagojevich's scandals. I did a graphic start shows some of the headlines mentioned.

In recent coverage of the scandal involving Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D), several media outlets have offered headlines that baselessly suggest President-elect Barack Obama has been implicated in the scandal. As Media Matters for America noted, prosecutor and U.S. attorney Patrick Fitzgerald stated during a December 9 press conference that the criminal complaint against Blagojevich "makes no allegations about the president-elect whatsoever -- his conduct," and Fitzgerald cautioned the press to "not cast aspersions on people for being named or being discussed or if you learn they're being interviewed."

Look at how MSNBC's Tamron Hall "forcefully challenged Republican strategist Doug Heye's characterization of President-elect Barack Obama as a "good friend" of Gov. Rod Blagojevich's.":

Blagojevich scandal. They always use the angle that "there's no evidence at all that he's involved, but is he handling it well? Does his comments leave us with more questions than answers? And if you noticed, they also slip in how high Obama's favorability ratings are, asking if the scandal will affect his approval ratings. They're hoping it WILL!

9. Did anyone see what I just saw? A whole segment on Countdown with David Shuster subbing
for Keith and not ONE mention of a possible connection or questions raised about Obama during an entire segment about Blagojevich?!

13. Nobody but Olbermann can be trusted in my book to "stay the
course"...the rest will flip on a dime. Tweety suckered me in during the end of the campaign and now I can't stand his slobbering ass anymore either. I'm pms'ing this week so I have no patience for stupidity!!

15. I agree with you about Olbermann...
but I still like Tweety. I believe he just LOVES politics and speaks out loud and clear against the war as well as Cheney, Libby, Rove, etc. Sometimes I disagree with him but I don't dislike him.

19. Andy Ostroy says
"For the GOP, Blagojevich is the New Ayers"

<snip>

"But here's a big message to Republicans: you lost. Get over it. Clearly, voters rejected the GOP's campaign mudslinging, and it's utterly pointless, and quite frankly embarrassing, to start that nonsense up all over again. Let me repeat myself: Barack Obama won the election and in just about six more weeks he will become the 44th president of the United States. That's not gonna change. So to try now to clip Obama to Blagojevich's dirty coattails is a supreme lesson in futility, and an indication that Duncan, the RNC, the GOP and the conservative talking-heads apparently have learned little since November 4.

One thing's certain: Obama should not in any way, shape or form dignify the politically-suspect statements or challenges from Duncan or anyone else which shamelessly attempt to drag him into this mind-boggling shitstorm."

20. "The New Ayers"....
And like the obvious attempts to link Obama to Ayers, it didn't work by all polling done. Sure, there will be a few people eager to latch onto the hysteria and lies the mainstream media tries to spawn, but it's already evident that people aren't buying the Blagojevich-Obama link...

We'll have to deal with more of these concoctions out of thin air all through Obama's two terms from the Republicans. If anything, it's good to get amped up for it now.
