1. He's right, though I'm sure Blago will say he's just salivating to become governor.

2. I thought he was the coach of the Maple Leafs. As a player he clobbered Bobby Orr.
Different Pat Quinn, I guess.

21. That's what I was thinking......the gum chewing coach of the Leafs calling for an Illinois Gov. to
step down?

What does that tell you about what I'll be watching tonight...hahahahahaha

3. Read over on DKos that a state representative
is already calling for/organizing his impeachment.

There was no link posted.....it looks like the diarist has some inside sources.

This is ALL good news, the quicker that crook is booted from the Governor's mansion, the sooner a "clean" appointment can be made.

If you live in Illinois, how do folks perceive Quinn? Is he seen as being independent of the Governor?

4. It's a minor point, but just for the record, he's never lived in the Governor's Mansion.
He doesn't do downstate.

9. Well, in any other state, it would've been appropriate. But this is Illinois.

7. My sister follows IL politics, and she says Quinn would be a breath of fresh air
after Blogo. Seems he still has a decent rep.

8. Rumor had it that impeachment was being sought.

Not sure if it was actually going to happen though, so it looks like we may get an early gift afterall.

20. EVERYBODY is independant of this Governor. And it's not just any State Representative.

It is the State Representative who (1) chairs the judiciary committee which would have to kick off an impeachment and (2) just happens to represent the Governor's home district!

As I said, EVERYBODY is independant of this Governor. Democrats have 100% of the statewide offices as well as control of both chambers of the legislature, but haven't been able to get anything done because of this one man. Normally having a Governor from your party arrested would be a bad thing. But this is actually the best thing that could have happened to our party.

This is proving to be a great couple of months for Illinois Democrats!

Hmmm. I think I'll post that as an OP.

10. Just heard the Chairman of the IL House Judiciary talking about impeachment
on local radio.

I doubt Blago will ever resign.

14. Exactly. Impeachment is the only option.
He will never give it up. He'll have a plane fly him from Alcatraz to Springfield every day during state sessions.

11. According to CNN, the IL State Legislature is going into special session...
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 03:38 PM by Dennis Donovan
...and vote to create a special election to fill Obama's seat. Anyone with knowledge of IL state politics care to guess how such an election would turn out (could the seat go to a Republican)?

13. It could go to a Republican
The IL-GOP is in a state of chaos.

Hopefully, they will nominate Oberweis who has proven time and again he is incapable of winning elections though he has the money to purchase GOP nominations.

If we're lucky, Lisa Madigan will seek the seat.

15. Of course, this means Blago better quit immediately, so Quinn can appoint someone...
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 03:43 PM by Dennis Donovan
...before a specialelection can happen.

How about Jim Edgar? Is he still popular? I read somewhere he might want to get back into politics...

...and remember he was pretty popular then.

17. He's immensely popular
but I don't think he could beat MAdigan.

The MAdigans ahve had a long running feud with Blagojevich, so she's the exact right direction for the IL Democratic Party to take. Plus, she's already proven an incredible ability to win statewide elections.

19. He declined to run for that seat in 2004
And ironically, probably would have defeated Obama.

This looks like the political equivalent of Naomi Klein's "Disaster Capitalism."
