What is the appropriate punishment for groping cardboard figures?
It is my belief that the appropriate punishment should be that a cardboard replica of the perpetrator ought to be burned at the stake.

Any other suggestions?

9. I am totally shocked by all of the hysteria concerning a piece of cardboard.
Let me say that we have a full sized cut out of * and have spent the last year determining its final hours. We had decided that on January 20th we would pull the dumpster to the street and stand George in it like yesterdays trash but hey, I don't want to end up on the front pages. I guess all of the bubble thoughts that we have pasted on him are crimes as well.

People need to join the real world. Either Hillary Clinton is a fully formed human or she is not. How can we expect her to straighten out the worlds problems if she is always needing an apology or some special stroke? Let's talk about our soldiers and how they need some special consideration and stroking. How about getting them home? How about treating them with respect? Someone needs to grow up in a big hurry.

14. No kidding
While it may have been in a poor taste (anything done when alcohol is involved usually is), there are have got to be at least thousands of other problems that are more important for us to focus on than something like this. Before all this, I had no idea we had laws against sexually harrassing a CARDBOARD CUT OUT (admittedly, of a real person but still). What's important to me is that he apologized to Hillary (and probably to Obama) and took down the pictures. What more exactly should he have to do? Flog himself in the public square? Wear a scarlet "G" around his neck for the rest of his life? Why should he have to be fired and/or resign over THIS? I hope this is not the beginning of another long string of "manufactroversies" like what the Clintons had to deal with the whole time they were in the WH.

I am a woman and I will say that nothing has degraded women more that Hillary's behavior at the end of the primary season when she disappeared and refused to come out of hiding to concede. Right there...RIGHT THERE...is where women deserved an apology. She makes women out to be weak sniveling souls that constantly need to be knelt to. Get off of this crap about women being degraded because a cardboard cut out was kissed. Really let's come back to the world of reality sometime soon before it is impossible to elect a woman for anything.

10. I would think the cardboard figure should have their way with the perpetrator
Edited on Mon Dec-08-08 10:57 AM by zulchzulu
I had dozens of women grope my Obama cutout in Madison at my Obama table. Heck, I have video and photos of such behavior. I even had some women want to know where they could get their own personal Obama cutout "for later".

Since this is pretty much an altered universe subject, I'd say the cardboard cutout should be allowed to do whatever it wants to those that grope it. If nothing happens, the owner of the cutout could perhaps return the favor.

Take this example. These two women from Holland and Spain came by my Obama table and groped my Obama cutout. They both kissed it and giggled with joy. I feel that, as the owner of said cutout, that I should act as if I AM the cutout and participate equivocally. Here they are after kissing doing the thumbs-up.

Second, he must be investigated by some cardboard Secret Service agents.

Third, Hillary should dress a cardboard likeness of HIM like a baby, and publically announce that she'll hang on to it till it grows up and acts like an adult.

And then, finally, this molehill of a story should die...

As long as the cardboard cutouts are apparently consenting adults, there is no need for a penalty. However, there should be a serious penalty for underage cardboard groping.

Whatever the punishment for Sexual Harassment is...

All other things being equal, were that particular scenario were to be played out at my office, the person in question would be written up for sexual harassment and sent home for the week sans pay if it were his/her first offense.

I don't think the cardboard cut-out is a proxy in original scenario (at least, would it to play out out my office...), but rather, is simply a prop used by the person who would get written up.

Unlike your scenario, I don't think anyone would be either harmed or directly offended it the cut-out were set on fire (but then we'd a safety issue on our hands, a whole different kettle of fish...)

How is this sexual harassment?

Was Hilary there? Were they taunting a Clinton Supporter? Were they at the office????

This guy just needs to remember who he works for and not post pics to the innerwebs.

This is NOT harassment or a crime. It is a drunk guy having fun. Nothing got hurt except some overly sensitive people's sense of humor.

If one holds up a picture of a female, and one proceeds to mime groping the breasts of the person pictured regardless of whether the person pictured was present or not, that would indeed be considered sexual harassment (in that it is "...unwelcome attention of a sexual nature" (Wiki)).

"Was Hilary there?" I dunno. Probably not-- unless of course that was merely a rhetorical question to ad some melodrama to your post...

"Were they taunting a Clinton Supporter?" I dunno. Probably not, but I can't even begin to figure out why that's a relevant question.

"Were they at the office????" I don't think so-- but as stated in my post, were the same scenario to be played out "at my office (I can type slower if that helps..)..." And I imagine that any and every member of a Presidential candidate's campaign staff should always act as though they are being interviewed, unless they are absolutely confident and secure that what they are doing/saying will not be seen or heard-- I imagine it would be common sense.

And as I've said (for the umpteenth time now...), the scenario I used was predicated on being at work.

If you're a worker for a Presidential Campaign, you'd do yourself (and your candidate) a great service if you behaved and acted as though you were in front of a camera at all times, unless you have absolute knowledge that what you're saying or doing is within the confines of complete privacy.

Unless of course one thinks that being a campaign staffer is a nine-to-five, Monday thru Friday job... I'd imagine it's not, but others may think otherwise..
