Favreau steps in it again......this young man might want to check himself...
First, it was the innocent, yet stupid, cutout groping and posting on Facebook.

And today, Mr. Favreau was quoted in the NYT Style section talking about his new luxury condo in D.C.

Don't everyone come after me saying I'm attacking him, I'm not.

And I sure as hell don't think he should be fired.

But this second indescretion -- waxing about your new fancy digs during a serious economic downturn-- once again shows that he is lacking a bit in the personal judgement department.

I have little doubt, that someone, yet again today, placed a phone call to John Favreau reminding him of the "no drama" policy in the new White House.

This is a young man in a very important and public position. He really needs to learn that his circumstances demand a different style from others of his age. I hope he learns fast. He is an amazing speech writer.

...I know other 26-27 year olds. NONE of them act like that. He has EXTREMELY POOR judgement. I think they ought to cut him loose and tell him WHY. So he can learn from it and grow up.

Making excuses for him by saying "oh but he's so young" won't help him get beyond his issues - it's only ENABLING him to continue with them. He badly needs for his poor judgement to REALLY HURT him once. That'll straighten his butt out right there.

Yeah, he got a little carried away and hopefully now he can get back to the pen and paper and help Obama deliver an AMAZING Inauguration speech.

I agree with you, as far as some advocating that he should be fired. He shouldn't.

I think he is an intelligent and eloquent man, whose skills with the pen helped Obama get elected.

I just think the young guy needs to take a "chill pill" as far as becoming a public persona......and because like you wrote, "With our economy near collapse" I think it is in really poor taste to talk to the press about your new luxury condo.

And I don't need to "get used to him" I think it's wonderful that he is part of the Administration.

but potentially amazing and skilled speechwriters are a dime a dozen. Having spent 20 or so years of my life in marketing communications, I am quite certain of this.

There a zillion unemployed and marginally employed writers out there. Many of them are strong democratic supporters. Many of them also very experienced. Experienced enough to not be egotistical children. Just not connected enough to have landed a cherry job straight out of school and have the road ahead well paved. But who had to take the crap jobs to survive and work their way up.

Also having worked in marketing communications, I know how incredibly influential truly gifted writers can be on their clients. The choice of words subtly directs meaning and thinking. I know this because as a lowly writer, I gave direction to multibillion dollar service businesses I worked with where they were having a hard time defining the services they offered.

So I personally was not thrilled to read that he's about 30 years old, never mind only 27. Obama needs a grown up to work that closely with him. It's the one hire I've really been unhappy with. But he's made his choice and now he has to live with his public antics.

Edited on Sun Dec-07-08 05:02 PM by Uzybone
Guys the election is over. Some people are still looking at things though the election prism of "gaffes" and what not.

Does anyone think he earns peanuts? Or should he just pretend to earn peanuts.

Here is Favreau talking about his luxury condo:

"After a weekend of searching in mid-November, Mr. Favreau bought a condominium in the Chastleton, an eight-story Gothic-style luxury building, where Gen. Douglas MacArthur once lived. It will be a dramatic switch from his most recent housing situation, where he shared a house in Lincoln Park with other Obama staff members.

In Chicago, we lived in a house with seven people, Mr. Favreau said. Everyones pretty much staying close together here."

Thats all he said. Frankly the OP is deceptive. You'd think he was boasting about it or showing it off.

Much of DU, including both the hardcore Obama and hardcore Clinton supporters, is apparently still fighting the primary wars. I think this whole non-story is as ridiculous as the idea that someone can "grope" a cardboard cutout, but I think you're exactly right about the fact that if you changed which cardboard cutout's "breast" was being pawed, we'd have the same folks (on both sides) reacting in totally opposite fashions.

65. You're kidding right? It would be ok with you
if that guy was groping a cardboard cutout of you're mamma? If you're a woman I don't understand you and if you're a man, no more excuses for bad behavior.

66. I am a woman,
and I have more important things to worry about than this guy groping a cardboard cutout. Would it bother you if it were a cardboard cutout of Britney Spears?

72. All misogyny bothers me. And as a woman maybe you
ought to make some time or that glass ceiling that Hillary cracked for us will continue to exist. This has nothing to do with Hillary and Obama and the primaries. Would it bother you if the cutout was of you?

76. No need to lecture me on women's rights.
I went to college in the early 70's and have been in the working world since. I know about women in the work place and the glass ceiling. Perhaps YOU ought to "make some time" to fight for real women's issues-not worry over a cardboard cutout. And if the cutout was of me, I would not waste my time worrying about it.

79. I do make time for womens issues, you clearly don't and it's
women like you keeping us from realizing our full potential. So go ahead don't worry your head about it other women will fight the fight for you.

83. Your attitude and rude personal attacks
are more apt to keep you from reaching your full potential. You have no idea how I have worked for women and human rights.

69. Anyone who opposes sexism cares about this.

The punk should get his walking papers. Picture him groping a cardboard Michelle Obama and tell me that's okay.

71. Indiscretion? All he said was that he lived in Lincoln Park (Chicago) with other
staff members and that in DC they were sticking close to one another.

Baby boomers were an idealistic generation which subsequently became that which they despised the most: their parents.
