Irrelevant Peggy Noonan: "At Least Bush Kept Us Safe"
I wonder why she is still considered a Pundit????

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122843788060281477.html

The two words Democrats don't want tacked onto that sentence.
........
We received a reminder of the gravity of the situation this week, with the bipartisan congressional report saying the odds are high the world will see a biological or nuclear terror attack in the next five years. It said, "America's margin of safety is shrinking, not growing," and "the risk that radical Islamistsal Qaeda or Talibanmay gain access to nuclear material is real."

Commission co-chairman Bob Graham, a former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and an adviser to Mr. Obama's transition team, was sober in a Q&A with Newsweek. He said he was most surprised at the risk of biological weapons because of "the ubiquitous nature of pathogens"anthrax, or a resurrected infectious agent such as the one that produced the 1918 influenza epidemic, which has been re-created in the laboratory.

The report hasn't received the attention it deserves, nor have its recommendations. Rep. Jane Harman, a California Democrat, accused the commission of playing the "fear card" and trying to imitate the Bush administration in alarmism and bellicosity. Mr. Graham, a Florida Democrat and former senator, would have none of it. "Our adversaries are gaining greater capabilities," he said.
....
Why does Congress prepare such reports? To inform, and to win support for new plans. To show they are doing something. And to be able to say, in the event of calamityforgive my cynicismthat they warned us. This hasn't been the first such report. It won't be the last. But it comes at a key moment for Mr. Obama, because it gives him a certain amount of cover to be serious about what needs to be done. What's at stake for him is two words. When Republicans say, in coming years, "At least Bush kept us safe," Democrats will not want tacked onto the end of that sentence, "unlike Obama."

1. Peggy's just a mess.
She is smart and attractive but long ago crossed the Reagan Rubicon. And the way back involves more risk than a risk-averse personality like hers can bear.

2. Bush kept us safe until 9/11/01.....which was like nine months after being sworn in.
Further, the point of the new report is that we have been made less safe in the last eight years, not more so.

She must be taking LSD or something.

3. I posted this at the site. We'll have to see if they end up actually posting it.
Bush kept us safe until exactly September 11, 2001, so the headline of the Noonan opinion piece is a misnomer to begin with. Tragically, Iraq was George Bush's private war, fought at a great price to this nation; it bankrupted us in more ways than one. In the end, it is Barack Obama who will have to fight the war that George Bush abandoned; the war that if fought correctly might have made us safer. It is in fact, this overarching point that Mr. graham makes in the mentioned report. Those are the facts, while "At least Bush kept us safe" is a fiction. Without truth, we are even less safe still. Ms. Noonan ought to have learned this lesson by now.

6. I know the new line;
Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 04:07 AM by FrenchieCat
since Iraq is to be wounded down, Afghanistan takes its place as the war to be against. But, unlike Iraq, the justification of calling Afghanistan a diversion and a quaqmire will hinge on how Obama chooses to handle it. Afghanistan was not a private war, and we are not the only ones involved there. Obama is not looking for a site in a large Muslim country to give a speech, in order to emulate all of Bush's mistakes. Conflict resolution is not one size fits all, and Bush's mindset will not be adopted by Obama.

5. please... tell me no one with more journalistic clout than I HAVE said this -
or worse yet, published it...? (For the record, I have zero journalistic clout, if that).

I thought her views were pretty sharp... are "out of context" or "on medication" possible routes of explanation?

If meant literally, then I am formally stunned, regardless of the source.

She still has a worship room with a picture of Ronnie IRAN CONTRA CRIMINAL Reagan, that she lights candles in daily.
She becomes more delusional by the day.
I think all those appearances on Morning dead intern Joe is giving her Reagan hallucinations.

She can't even hide it.

As far as her comments about Bush, guess she's part of the Makeover Team of the Bush Legacy. They figured that she did such a good job remaking the Reagan Legacy, that she is quite priceless.

9. Bush did keep us safe
......unless you want to count the 4000 people who died on 9/11, just the worst disaster to hit the mainland U.S in history.

If you do acknowledge 9/11, then you can make the argument that Bush kept us less safe than any other president in history!

More people have died from terror attacks in the U.S. under Bush than any other administration. What is it that Noonan doesn't get?
Is she so fucking ignorant that she can close her eyes to the largest terror attack on the U.S? That would make her a traitor to the United States, an aid to the enemy, and therefore an enemy combatant, open to detention and rendition, under Bush rules.

Maybe we should revisit some of these tyrannical policies to use against the mouths of those idiots who claim Bush has kept us safe, and then, they would understand!

12. And, of course, fighting an illegal war in Iraq has helped keep us very safe from any future
attacks, because it's not like that has motivated anyone to want to kill us even more.

And think of how his policies have kept us safe from Chinese imports contaminated with lead and melamine. Thank you, Mr. Bush!

Then there's his pal Cheney's little operation Halliburton/KBR and how they are protecting our troops and keeping them safe from things like accidental electrocutions, poisonings by bad/rotten food and ice, being sickened by open-air fires that everything gets tossed onto including amputated limbs, etc., etc., etc.

Oh, and how could we forget his work against natural disasters, and how he kept New Orleans and the area around it safe from both Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

Thank you, President Bush, for AT LEAST KEEPING US SAFE!!!!!!!

10. I only read Peggy Noonan when they tear her apart on Wonkette. She's intolerable otherwise.
She doesn't have an original thought in her head... just an occasionally hilarious way with words.

Remember when she said in 2000 that Gore was such a lying liar and Bush was probably incapable of lying? Ugh...

For the 3,000+ people who died on 9/11, and the 4,000+ who have died in Iraq, and then there were the victims of Katrina. His lack of keeping us safe has extended to the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent people in Iraq. Someone needs to buy Noonan a clue!!!

26. Karl Rove & Morning Joe were applauding Bush for the same thing last week
on TV. Their way of looking at things is a little screwy, to say the least. Sure we haven't had another attack here at home since 911, but instead we've had over 4000 US troops killed abroad and over 100,000 innocent civilians killed. Add to that the obscene numbers of maimings and other injuries, both physical and mental, and it really proves how absurd Noonan's "At least Bush kept us safe" statement is....and Scarborough's and Rove's. They are sick, all of them. Besides, if Bushco was on its toes and bothered paying attention to the warning they got in the summer preceeding 911, maybe the disaster would have been avoided.

30. These Reaganites are not healthy, I swear.
Peggy was on Morning Joe a couple of weeks talking wistfully about how one White House staffer would say "Daddy's Home" when Ray-gun would return from abroad. They are sick people. And I remember watching while they replayed the 9/11 original coverage footage this year, and even all the regular whores like Brokaw were like "How did this HAPPEN?" and "There is going to be a big fallout because of this, politically." Righhhhhht. What a load.
