Remember the debate over the first day of the Twenty-first Century?
Some people said it was January 1, 2000, while others claimed that the actual date for the beginning of the new century was January 1, 2001.

They were both wrong.

The first day of the Twenty-first Century will be January 20, 2009.

You know I'm right.

In fact, I'm going to hold an open house on inauguration day for some of like-minded neighbors who don't want to brave the crowds and elements by going downtown for the parade and speech. I'm billing it as a party to celebrate the start of the 21st Century.

1. You are most accurate in your history.....

Indeed the century was delayed....as we marched backward into time.
It has taken quite a bit from each of us to finally go forward to where we always belonged.
Thank goodness for it...I'm not sure how much longer I would have lasted
living in that alternate century where we were all dragged,
many of us kicking and screaming!

3. There are Certainly Precedents
No way the 60s began in 1960. Eisenhower was president. Elvis was in the military in Germany. Algeria was part of France.

The 1960s began in 1967 nationwide -- a little earlier if you were in the East Village or San Francisco.

7. The end of the 19th century came in August, 1914
when Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated, the event that triggered World War 1.

I'm fine with the 21st century beginning on Jan. 20 next year. I just wish the clock had stopped between Jan. 1, 2000 and inauguration day. I'd be nearly 9 years younger!
