Do people understand the difference between serving in the Clinton Administration and a loyalist?
Just because someone served in the Clinton Administration does not mean they are a hardcore Clinton loyalist. The fact is that most professional quality Democrats who can serve in Obama's Administration will have likely served in some position, appointed or not, in the Clinton Administration. Obama is not going to comb colleges and universities for a bunch of people who have simply warm and fuzzy theories. He wants people who have seen some real world activity. Not a whole bunch of hair-brained idealists. Some of those young idealists will cut their teeth in the lower echelons of the Obama administration and become major officials in the future either in Obama's second term if he has one or in the next Democratic administration.

That's how the system works.

1. Is there a thread or a particular person's comment that prompted this post?

2. No. It's just a general comment on many many many many posts.
Did I have enough "many"s in there?

5. Paul Begala, James Carville, Mark Penn, and that crowd.
Robert Rubin and Larry Summers are good examples from the cabinet. Larry Summers is not going to be in the cabinet, but he will have a position.

10. The connotation is that a Clinton loyalist would do anything to protect the Clintons.
It's a right wing meme that goes hand-in-hand with the meme that the Clintons are crooked. And the whole point of calling people "Clinton loyalists," now, is to set them up for guilt-by-association, later, when the GOP apparatus decides to start manufacturing Clinton scandals, again.

6. Very true. It's about talented, quality people.
Whatever one thinks about how Clinton did his business, there is no question he had some top people working for him.

Any Democrat who won the White House should consider those with top talents and experience.

11. It's not serving in the Clinton Admin, it's what you did when you where there

(for example, pushing for the policies that have led to this collapse and economic debacle) and what policies you've pursued since then (for example, thinking the Iraq War was a bang-up idea, remaining in Iraq). Do you have a record of representing the people or the very rich, corporations and neocons?

Simply warm and fuzzy theories - aka progressives who view the world through rose colored classes? No, let's just leave out the people right on Iraq, right on free trade, right on deregulation, etc., and appoint the idiots that drove us in this ditch. Yeah, that makes a heck of a lot of sense to me.

I guess people ridicule "idealistic" progressives b/c who wouldn't resent a group that has been so right, while they have been so wrong. It must suck to be part of a group with such a lousy track record. But keep telling yourselves how smart you are and how dumb we progressive are if it makes you feel any better.
