2. There's already one introduced into the House
HR676. It's Medicare for all and it won't take much to get it up and running as the bureaucracy is already in place to administer it. All it needs to do is come to the table for debate and passage. No one is doing anything about it right now because Bush will veto it even if both houses pass it. However, they could start moving it along in January in time for the new President Obama to sign it into law.

3. That all by itself would ease most of the problems the Big 3 have
It would seem to be a no brainer.

7. remember clinton's experience with health care
start small.

in fact, don't start with health care. start with an energy-conservation stimulus - insulating our buildings to current codes will save billions in energy every year, reduce GHG emissions, & put people to work.

16. Times have changed since Clinton tried it
more people are uninsured or underinsured and fed up with the current system. And, more doctors are fed up with insurance companies.

9. Actually I think priority 1 is undoing the Bush governmental policy clusterfuck.
Followed by fixing foreign policy/ending the war. So healthcare is probably number three.

12. I heard him mention..
at a rally I was at that his priorities were ending the war, energy, and health care..in that order. Although the economy has taken central stage, it really is tied up in all of them. I love that Teddy is back, and really, really hope that he sees all his work come to fruition.

13. As long as its a REAL universal health care bill...
...and not a "universal everyone has to shell out big bucks to buy insurance or get fined" bill.

14. Excaclty
I'm afraid they'll pass the bill you describe, claim we now have health "care" reform and shut off any discussions of actual change for another 20 years.

15. I agree but
we have to start small to prove that it works. Let's start by universal coverage for all children then take it from there.

18. I disagree, the economy is the #1 issue to all voters, work on fixing it first, then do other stuff
By other stuff of course I mean things like health care, etc.

19. Well, Obama can do multiple things at the same time so I suggest both
because you make a good point but that is as far as I am backing down.
