1. I guess my question is - Why?
Is Obama going to offer McCain a slot in his administration? Other than that, I can't think of a good reason for a meeting.

5. Actually this happens on ocassion when in a show of unity after an election the winner and loser
meet. For instance, JFK and Nixon in 1960, Nixon and Humphrey in 1968. I doubt it's to offer him a job.

JFK and Nixon met less than a week after the 1960 election. Its called burying the hatchet.

If it was anyone other than McCain, it might be a futile attempt, but McCain (all campaign rhetoric put aside) does have the ability to form compromise and work with us on certain issues (immigration), so its a good idea to bring him back into the fold of pleasantry.
