4. John Edwards, Human
I was never a supporter, although I liked him okay. He's human. Why villify him. It's between him and Elizabeth at this point. We'll see what he's made of with time.

9. I was a supporter, He is the only one that spoke for the poor. He made a bad desicion. If he does
it again, then he did not learn and then he is a sleezball. I believe in redemption.

19. Talk is cheap. What has multi-millionare Johnny ever done for the poor?
He had his poverty center at Chapel Hill...that he abandoned once he dropped out of the '08 race. He had his scholarship program...that he canceled once he dropped out of the '08 race. There was the time he made a quarter-million hanging on a subprime-investing hedge fund, but I don't think that counts as "helping the poor." Then there was his Senate career. Co-sponsoring Joe Lieberman's version of the Iraq War Resolution, voting for most-favored-nation status for China, voting for the Patriot Act...yeah, the dude was a progressive firebrand :eyes:

5. I voted other and here is why
Is Mr. Edwards a sleazeball? Yes, and no.

This guy slept around on his cancer stricken wife. We all denounced John McCain for screwing around on his sick wife, and I don't see any real difference between what McCain did, and what Edwards did.

He's still a good Democrat, and a decent politician. But I don't respect him anymore, because of what he did. He's not a teenager who doesn't know how to "keep it in his pants." He is an accomplished adult who absolutely KNOWS better.

And don't tell me he "made a mistake." Having sex isn't as simple as getting an ice cream. And it isn't a single mistake. Having sex is a series of opportunities to make a different choice, as anyone who thought they were about to have sex with someone, and then didn't, knows. Mr. Edwards had countless opportunities to stop himself, to control himself. AND HE CHOSE - many time over - NOT TO.

So is he a sleazeball? As regards cheating on his wife - yes. Yes he is.

As to the rest? We'll have to see. If Mr. Edwards cannot keep his promise to his sick wife, for now, at least, it is hard - if not impossible - to trust him with much of anything else.

7. Ugh, THANK YOU - having an affair isn't a "mistake"
Forgetting your car keys is a "mistake." Hell, forgetting your anniversary is a "mistake." Having an affair is a DELIBERATE CHOICE. MAYBE, if it had been one time, and he had been drunk or otherwise not possessing his wits, and as soon as he came to, he realized "oh SHIT what have I done?" - that might be a "mistake." But no - seeing someone secretly for months on end is not a mistake, it's a CHOICE. He CHOSE to cheat on his terminally ill wife. He CHOSE to disregard her feelings and the promises he made to her. "Mistake" my ass. I thought Newt Gingerich and John McCain were sleazy lying assholes for the way they treated their wives - why should I make an exception for John Edwards, because he has a D behind his name?

18. I think he's a sleazeball, and his wife's got nothing to do with it.
His entire political career is one of talking big and then not doing shit.

The problem is I love Elizabeth and the pain he has caused her has made it impossible for me support him any longer altho I still feel he is a very good guy when it comes to politics

14. Only one thing I know for sure:
ANY evidence of him donating in support of California's Prop 8, and his name WILL be mud.

That would be the last straw.

He hasn't donated jack to anyone since '03, and that's to himself!
Beyond that, he didn't donate anything to anyone after '97!

16. Other: Who?
Sorry, I know theres a pair of guys still competing to be senator in Alaska, a couple more competing in Minnesota. I hear there will be a runoff in Georgia. We have a new president elect, and a goober of a sitting president that we have to endure for another couple months.

I know I have a new senator here in Oregon, and I know that California passed measure 8, which makes all our other victories a little less jubilant. I know that I keep hearing about Palin even though she is totaly unimportant to me, and I know Nader is a dipstick. I have mixed feelings about Rahm Imanuel going with Obama, and wish we could get Lieberman out of our hair.

I am curious who will be taking the spot of the p/vp elect in the senate next year.

I could go on, but the point is that Edwards isn't even the tiniest little blip on the screen at this time.

17. You left something out
I was a big supporter, donated to his campaign, and am dissappointed in his judgement but I don't think he's a sleazeball. I'm just grateful he didn't get the nomination because we'd all be very depressed right now if he had.

25. Oh most definitely. The greatest political story of this season was the decline and fall of John
Edwards.

I enjoyed it thoroughly.

That scandal confirmed every bad thing I ever thought about the man, and magnified it by ten.

Now he's just a phony has-been politician, and it will be great to see him off of the national stage forever.

I'm not entirely sure what prompted it.
