I Just Booked My Flight to DC for the Celebration!
I cannot afford it, but I must be there!

I'm feeling mixed emotions about this.

I just paid $667 dollars (put it on a credit card) and I've never paid more than $300 to fly to DC from Fla - and I've been to many protests in DC!

Stolen Election
Pro-Peace (Anti-WAR)
Pro-Choice

Yet now it's a celebration?

I'm feeling confused? Guilty?

I should feel happy, but I have no cash and too much debt.

I must GO, I must.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

BTW - I have a friend who lives there, so no hotel issues.

-Cindy in Fort Lauderdale

9. Thank you so much
But DC in January means snow! Been there, done that.

Layers of clothing! Large coats!

As when I protested in 2001!

I'd like to take up on it. I just looked at your shirts and they're great. I can wear it as one of the many layers and show it off inside at least.

Thanks.

11. I think you could have found a better deal using priceline or hotwire
I would look up roundtrip flights with dates 19-21 just to be on the safe side. The flight should be around 250 or less, IMO.

13. I'm trying too
but from Seattle it looks prohibitively expensive. What airports could we fly into that we could then use public transport to get to DC?

18. National is the closest to DC
But there is also Dulles and Baltimore. DC has a good public transportation system, you'd just need plan it out ahead of time.

25. You can get pretty cheap train tickets from BWI if you buy them in advance
Dulles, your only option is a $50 cab which is a lot but if you save a few hundred bucks on your airfare compared to National, it's worth it. National has a metro station in the airport but I tended to find the most expensive flights went there. BWI and Dulles have Southwest terminals and Southwest is cheaper than everything else usually so if you can get on Southwest from Seattle I'd recommend doing that.

27. Give a congressman/senator a huge campaign contribution
My father actually gave $2000 to a Senator but I don't think that is even enough to score a ticket. You probably have to give the max and then find a few buddies and convince them to give the max as well (bundling as they call it).

26. I checked Amtrak
It's a 24-26 hour ride from/returning to South Fla, and all the seats were taken. I would have had to get a "roomette" and the toilet was right next to the bed. EWWW!

I've taken the Amtrak train many times in Florida, and those trains are not cleaned all that well.

But, YES, see you there!!!

Plane, train, bus or automobile. Yes we can!

:)

28. Only a 9 hour trip for me...and I'm traveling with a friend.
I like the idea of being dumped off right in the heart of DC with no transportation worries once we get there. Everything will be within walking distance, including the place where we are staying. It will be freaking awesome!! :)

Crowd of 1 Million Could Attend Obama Inauguration
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 9:37 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration is expected to draw 1 million-plus to the capital, and already some lawmakers have stopped taking ticket requests and hotels have booked up.

Some people are bartering on Craigslist for places to stay for the Jan. 20 ceremony when the Illinois senator takes the oath of office. They are offering cash or even help with dishes for residents willing to open up their homes.

The National Park Service, which is planning for an inaugural crowd of at least 1 million, will clear more viewing space along the Pennsylvania Avenue parade route. Jumbo TV screens will line the National Mall so people can watch the inauguration and parade, park service spokesman David Barna said Thursday.

The District of Columbia's delegate, Eleanor Holmes Norton, is urging planners to use arenas and stadiums to help with overflow crowds wanting to view the ceremonies on big-screen TVs. She is also urging churches to hold viewing parties.
