CBS should do a "taste test" with a typewriter....
Have someone draft two documents, one using an IBM Selectric and one using a computer, and copy one or both of them over and over...

THEN, get a panel of "experts" and have them give their opinion, independently of one another, of which one was done on a typewriter and which was done on computer....

Who wants to bet that half of the experts would contradict the other half?

This would be an EXCELLENT follow-up 60 Minutes....

1. this would not work
For 2 reasons:

1) A typewriter tends to have letters that wear out in sections. The irregularities can be found. Fonts as used in laser printers or inkjet printers never wear out.

2) If the original document can be found, examine the letters with a magnifying glass. The typewriter document will show signs of having been struck by a typewriter piece, and so will have slight depressions where the letters are. Letters on a modern document would not be depressed at all.

2. All they have to show...
..is that the note could have been typed up on a typewriter to look the way it does. If that can be done (and I assume it could) then that;s the end of the whole notion that these are forgeries.

Because right now the only "proof" the other sides has to offer is that these letters could not have made made to look the way they do on a typewriter. Show that they could and that's the end that nonsense.
