I think they are forgeries myself. I think the fact that the WH has them is VERRRRRY interesting.

1. That's what I was thinking. Isn't producing forged documents
some sort of crime? Isn't deliberately misleading the public a violation of public trus...wait. I answered my own question.

2. I don't think they're forgeries, but WH hoisted either way.
If they are true, they prove disobeying orders and deserting during wartime (no statute of limitations).

If they are forgeries, then the WH must have forged them, or obtained them from forgers, or know they were forgeries. Hard to believe otherwise. They may try to pass the buck, but I don't think there will be any volunteers to have this pinned on them.

3. They aren't forgeries.
The signatures match and the typography was available on contemporary equipment. CBS verified their authenticity and they came from the military.

17. Please check out this link on another DU thread.
It might help you. Then again, maybe not.

Prior to their being discussed on 60 Minutes, the White House vetted *'s NG documents and did not contradicted their authenticity.

6. Not forgeries. 60 Minutes has a great track record.
60 Minutes sent copies to the White House which the White House then released.

10. No one has a perfect track record.
I suspect that these are forgeries produced by the Rove ratfucking machine. I hope CBS internally investigates their source, and if they find something fishy, that they go public.

15. Never said perfect, just nigh-perfect
Look at the number of people who have attempted to sue 60 Minutes and failed.

Yeah, 60 Minutes has had bum reporting but it was over stuff like whether or not chickens were being sold to fund al Qaeda. This kind of stuff gets vetted by legal thoroughly before being aired.

Could they be wrong? Yes. And if they are, they are done as a news program. If I have to place a bet, I will bet on past performance being indicative of future returns. That's just me, though, I'm not the type to make risky gambles.

8. what in the hell good would that do them?
why would they want to bring this up in the first place? even if they knew that people would eventually discover that they were forged, do you think that Rove would want to even risk bringing *'s service record back into the fray? sorry, but IMHO that's worthy of a :tinfoilhat:

12. Perhaps. But it's worse to think a Kerry operative would have done
something so amateurish as to forge a 1973 document using Microsoft Word.

16. Somewhere here on DU is the story - either from a newspaper source
or tv media that says that the documents released finally by the WH were from CBS. They got them from CBS, I guess, reviewed them and then released them. Then sometime later started this "forgery chant". Anyway, I was confused myself as to why WH releases documents sent to them by CBS. I thought that CBS' report sort of forced them to release documents they had. Anyway, I was all excited about the business that the "typewriter" thing was just like on the docs released by the WH until I read they were first given to the WH by CBS. Still can't quite figure it out.
