Do you like the Secret Service code name for Obama & Family?
Barack Obama (President-elect) - Renegade
Michelle Obama - Renaissance
Malia Obama - Radiance
Sasha Obama - Rosebud

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Service_codenames

I guess they're okay

For Obama I would have preferred OB-1

4. They are fine, but I'm speechless that this information is being released.
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 04:50 PM by Mike 03
Can't anyone with a good police scanner hear what the secret service is saying?

This information should remain private, IMO.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the past, or at least during the Kennedy years, didn't we only learn about the SS names after they were out of office?

What is the point of making code names public while they are still in use?

The wackjobs can figure that much out and our spinning their wheels trying to uncover the current names.

I know a Secret Service agent pretty well--these guys are as proactive as they can be.

22. Because its mostly meant for clarity of communication
Communication is (mostly) done over secure radio channels, so there is little need for obfuscation.

If there had been an incident today, it would not do to have to refer to Bush and Obama as the President and President-elect fx.

11. Not bad names
For some reason they always give the family the same initial, for example:

Bill Clinton: Eagle

Hillary Clinton: Evergreen

Chelsea Clinton: Energy

BTW, they keep the same code names after leaving office. Bill and Hillary are still Eagle and Evergreen respectively.

:D

13. Renegade is inappropriate.
Definitions:

1 : a deserter from one faith, cause, or allegiance to another
2 : an individual who rejects lawful or conventional behavior

I suspect the name choser was a McCain supporter. No one supporting Obama would have chosen a code name like that.

26. I really do not have negative connotations with the name
Most people would probably align it more with maverick or a lone ranger kind of thing. I agree the textbook definition sounds harsh. But thats not really the impression I get when hearing it.

I thought they tried to keep them secret so they could talk under the radar.

Why have names if they are not secret.

I assumed it was implied.

Jeez, try to share something personal and you get persecuted by word parsers, then again you did start this thread about word parsing to begin with.

If anything I was associating the name with a fond memory of something I loved. Way to try and discredit that.

30. If so, the SS has had half a century of confusion.
It has been like that since Kennedy afaik.

Makes it quick to make the right connotations. R = first family - C (pronounced as a K probably) = Vice presidential family.
