I just donated for the first time to DU because of all my 2008 memories.
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 01:23 AM by Kerry2008
I've never donated to DU.

I spend money like it's no tomorrow, but just never felt like donating to this website. I had other posters be so kind as to donate for me, to give me a star. A big shout out to the kind Kerry supporters who got me my first DU star, I really mean to post in that forum more often. Especially with Kerry in an awesome place to have much more impact with President-elect Obama.

I donated because of all the memories...

Debating and getting into heated debates with Hillary and Obama supporters over my candidate Edwards.

Debates over Obamas electability (GOD, I was wrong) when I supported Hillary.

Trying to talk Hillary into dropping out when all seemed lost for her campaign.

Rallying behind Obama, and beginning the full assault on McCain.

The primary rehashes.

The debates over the Clintons (and me and a few others being the only people for a while who would defend them)

Being tombstoned for something idiotic, and the DU staff being gracious in letting me return. I learned my lesson.

And lastly, being here on election night and watching with tears in my eyes as Senator Obama became President-elect Obama.

Thanks guys for all the memories. I look forward to posting with you in the elections in 2010 and 2012.

I donated tonight thanks to all of you :grouphug:

Check in and tell us if you donated, and share stories from this LONG Presidential campaign.

1. A shout out to my favorite DUers from this season: mtnsnake, AtomicKitten and beachmom.
mtnsnake because Obama's election gave us something to agree on.

AtomicKitten for agreeing to disagree on the Clintons, and for being just plain awesome ;)

and finally, beachmom. A fellow Kerry supporter whose challenged me in the past, and I have challenged.

3. We donated at the same time
I admit I had hard feelings when Hillary didn't get the nomination. I had a bad experience with some overly aggressive Obama supporters at my precinct caucus, which didn't help. But after he got the nomination, I began observing him, reading his works, listening to his speeches. I saw the man grow. I watched him listen and learn, I saw him surrounding himself with smart people. I watched as he refused to get down in the mud with the McCain Palin scum. I saw that he was that rarest of politicians - a sincere and authentic human being. I saw an interesting combination of authority, confidence and humility. I saw that he had a global view of all things. I saw that he was a good father and husband. And when I finally went and cast my vote, at 7 am on November 4, 2008, I did so with a pride I haven't felt since I was six years old and John F. Kennedy waved at me from his car when he visited my small Midwestern town in 1962.
