Help me understand this about Prop #8
I'm home injured and god forbid I watched a bit of the View. So before anyone flames me remember that 2 days ago I went tumbling down the steps and knocked by head.

But this is my 2 cents with the whole gay marriage thing. If there are churches out there so dead set against performing gay marriages (ie - the Mormons), then why should they be forced to do so? I mean if I were gay, I'd want to associate myself with faiths that accept who I am; and if I'm correct there are plenty out there.

1. They're not,

Just as they are not required to marry anyone and everyone that walks through the door right now.

Prop Hate says nothing about requiring any religious institution to perform marriages. Likewise, the BS about requiring the teaching in schools. Bald-faced lies.

They have delusions of grandeur – that they are the only game in town.

2. No church would have been forced to perform gay marriages, it's not about that
it's about the legal definition of marriage.

3. No church is "FORCED" to do anything!
Where did you get the idea that churches were EVER forced to do anything regarding gay marriages?

Churches sometimes refuse to marry people who are heterosexual, for whatever reason. No one FORCES the church to marry them!

Please inform us of where you got that notion of churches being FORCED? I want to write them a letter.

8. If you read my post you'd understand why I'm asking
Hey, I'm on some serious pain killers. But I also know that Hasselbeck tends to parrot was was said on right-wing media. Personally I'd like to understand what the truth is so I can correct those who think that way.

Excuse me for actually having questions and wanting to understand stuff. Perhaps it's better if I just stay ignorant.

11. I couldn't find the remote
but honestly, I do see co-workers who repeat that shit and well, I just want to make sure I understand 110%.

I'm planning on switching from whatever they prescribed me to plain old motrin. I really don't like the hardcore pain killers.

4. They wouldn't be.
That was the big lie about CA's gay marriage ruling. Only state employees performing civil marriages (as opposed to church weddings performed by ministers) would be required under the old law to marry gay couples, too.

5. They want to forbid ANY church from doing it
This is not at all about forcing any church to do anything. It is about churches using their political muscle to prohibit anyone else from doing it.

Christians are always whining and worrying about their freedoms being curtailed, when in reality they are the ones trying to limit the freedoms of others.

6. Prop 8 doesn't force the churches to marry gay people
When the CA Supreme Court ruling came out, it specifically says that the churches cannot be forced to marry anyone they don't want to. This was a blatant lie by the prop 8 people. They ran their whole campaign using lies and hyperbole. That's why people are so pissed.

7. No one would be forced to do ANYTHING
Churches have nothing to do with marriage -- they just perform a religious ceremony. The State is the one who issues licenses and has the benefits, laws, etc. All marriage is is a legal contract. Getting "married" in a church is just pageantry or/and vowing to Goad as well as the State. In France, you HAVE to get married by a public official before you drive to Church for your wedding.

A Baptist can't make an RC priest marry them.

As Pacifist Patriot told me: "All I have to do is sign this license and turn it in. Nobody needs to do anything."

I'm actually surprised my Sis didn't know this.

9. Sweety, I've been in an opiate haze the last 48 hours
that'll teach me to watch the View while doped up.

My body is badly bruised and I'm just trying to get thru the next couple of days.
